I'm glad to see you joined the dark side (aka, 1st person present).
I really liked the one-shot. The feeling of "holy shit, this is just like anime" changing to "holy shit, people are living their lives here just like anywhere else" is immensely relatable. I had the same reaction when I visited Japan (fortunately not because of any corpo/government intrigues).
I do enjoy the irony, and enjoy it in Meipouchou as well. I think the irony works better when it has time to breath - going from weeb to political thriller in under 3k words is a little tough, but there's not much you can do with the constraints of the contest. If you ever lengthen this from 3k to 30k you'd really be cooking.
But as a one-shot is still works, don't get me wrong. Best girl is the government agent.
Still gotta finish Meipouchou and Hoshinauts, but it's been great seeing the growth from Meipouchou -> Realm Called Earth -> to this.
