I didn’t know what to expect going in, but I’m very fascinated with space so that unique element drew me in right away 🪐 The creative choices were well executed, and the metaphors with planet Thanatos were easy enough to understand. I personally loved the imagery with butterflies 🦋

Mina!! 💖 I’ll say don’t give up on the possibility of meeting a mysterious singing stranger just yet (since you never know 😆) It hit home for me too, the holidays are tough for a solo office employee… I get snowed in around Christmas time every year, and can’t make it to see my folks. I liked the start-and-stop kind of pacing you had when describing the dynamic between the two. You were able to convey a lot of detail in their relationship without using a ton of words to do so. Nicely done.

In this context the vehicle for death (Akira-Chan) sort of reminds me of something out of “The Happening” 🌾 with the concept of a mind virus unfolding, and what it makes people do.

The back-and-forth dialogue between the narrator and the recipient character is an interesting creative choice. I like how it was done, and it lends itself well to the message of finding hope in the small things life has to offer. Like a starry sky 🌌

The parallels between both our leads being enchanted by a siren’s lullaby (but things ultimately ending up pretty different here) I like the vehicle of Thanatos being a creature that fits the setting on the ship 🧜‍♀️ Everything was described well, and it really put me into the scene.

Being able to convey a message within the short-story format is a skill all by itself, and I think you were able to do that here. ✨ Death to many is a release, idealized/romanticized heavily within media as an escape from life’s hardships. But—as you illustrated—there’s beauty in that hardship. Nicely done with the descriptiveness too!

Being serious though, I liked what you did with this. The ups and downs of the writer’s mental state from cries for pity, to total nonchalantness on the subject of death, and ultimately outright blackmail make for an interesting roller coaster. Better not open that bag of “love” though…
