Jamal is quite passive guy. He doesn't like to fight against his own teammates. It's Keith's own perception that made him one, thanks to the big blowout guy stole a position out of him.
In short, he is an ally on the team, but also serve as Keith's comparison point.
Jamal doesn't have lot of screentime due to him not in Keith's group, but we shouldn't forget about him as he is important character. He also grows in his own, without we realize it, everyone in the team does. Well, all except Ryan. (Do some reads and you know why)
