Ngl, I think you could have easily started from the start of this trip and let the other stuff be characterization later on. It's not bad to leave a little mystery as to who Anu is and why he is rejected by Ayano and how he kind of falls from Grace amongst his peers.

Every time Anu mentions how indecipherable the Hokkaido Shinyobun, I can't help but think of the scene from Lord of Mysteries where the old man talks about the unreadable journal and then the MC picks it up and goes, "It's just modern Chinese!"
