This was really nice, and I like how you left them in a hopeful but not fully solved situation. They defeated the worms (for now), but they still need to rebuild society, and there's a lot of distrust going around.

Really cool concept and take on the prompt. I really enjoyed following along on the ride.

So, as we suspected, the council worked with the worms 'for the greater good', committing atrocities while looking for a way to stop 'the greater evil'. Unfortunately, it's not too hard to understand their reasoning, and they did get some results.
At least now they have a way to kill both the worms coming to this world -- and if they can find a way to attack their homeworld too, that could end this fairly fast.
They won't get back everything they lost, but at least now there's real hope for a world where they can heal, use the flow again - and be free of the worms.
