It was 100% meant to go this way. I wanted to show that little bit of love at the end to really land it home. Throughout the story, Tsukasa refers to Hayami as 'daughter' and she refers to him as 'boss.' This is the only chapter in which he says her name when protecting her, and she calls him dad when fearing for his well-being.
