It really does have all the tags! This is what I think Sigil, the city in Dungeons & Dragons which connects all the worlds, should be, instead of the oddly gothic city that it is.
The United Worlds Peacekeepers have been doing it for at least 50 years in Babel, so I guess they just got used to the weirdness. As to the research, whenever I learn of a cool fantasy/cyberpunk/space opera creature, I'll write it down in an OpenOffice writer document I have. It's gotten to be absolutely huge, so I have a lot of stuff to draw from.
Berserk is very cool, and I'd recommend reading it until the end. RIP Miura. I heard a rumour that his team MIGHT be continuing Berserk despite his death, but I can see that not happening as well. When the writer of Highschool of the Dead died, his team didn't continue the manga because they didn't think anyone but him could write it.
