Tis' been a long time indeed, mate! RL was way too demanding the past couple months, but as you can see, I survived its trials just to come back to the site to read...only to have internet issues that moment I wanted to send this reply, all the way to yesterday... Really makes you wonder if I'm really jinxed.... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Jokes aside though, I'm seriously surprised that you remembered me saying that! I don't 100% remember what I had in mind back then, so I'll try to recall as much of it as I can!
If memory doesn't deceive me, by "lesson" I probably meant that we would get to see a side Rio hadn't shown us thus far to teach Lucas to not mess with her again like that...and that was exactly what we got. Not the berserk one I was expecting (I feel betrayed xD), but a much, much more human side of her. To elaborate a bit on that, I was waiting for Rio to get seriously pissed at Lucas, to the point that she would shout at him that he just doesn't understand how much he hurt her mentally, and from that point on, Lucas would start having second thoughts about how he saw Rio (more like an actual human with actual feelings instead of just an assassin that wants to take out her targets), and perhaps she would have said some things you included in her parts with in a more distressed and irritated way.
Instead, I can undeniably say that things worked out a lot better with the more serene tone and atmosphere! Choosing that approach really helped not only relieve the tension of the previous chapters, but also make the two getting a little bit closer much easier to understand, while also conveying their feelings in a way that felt relatable, if anything!
What I wasn't expecting though (and I'm really, really glad we actually got to see it) was this sincere and earnest side of Lucas. Alongside Rio's confessions, Lucas' were just as impactful to my impression of him, which were a fantastic addition on your part. I never felt like Lucas had faulty development as a character or was lacking at some aspects, but reading that part made me realize that he had really come a long way since he met Rio, more than I had speculated!
To sum it up: Even if I was expecting a completely different approach, I think the one was definitely the ideal one to serve as a resolution to this mini-arc! It basically achieved what I had vaguely imagined it would (aka that Lucas would see a side of Rio that he would probably have never expected to see), but in a completely different way that made the characters much more interesting and deeper! I'm dead set on the hope that this strengthening of their relationship will play a major role later on!
PS: I'll keep asking on an arc with that little girl, even if it's filler! You can't just set up an interesting, short backstory like this and leave it untouched! xD
