It seems Alden’s name switches to “Neale” just once during the breakfast scene.

Ah, good to see centuries of technological progress have put no damper on american-style medical debt.
Joke aside, money troubles are always a solid character-motive, and putting the debt count at the end of arcs seems an interersting visual-meter-stick for Sam's progress--if things go really badly the number could go back up. And the job he's gotten into has flexibility) promises a variety of adventures that should work well for the arc-based format.

Oooh, looks like some pretty neat worldbuilding woven in to amplify the mystery. Nice hook.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
As for getting chapters out, it's an eternal struggle. The strategy that seems to help me is to set a 15-25 minute timer. Committing a small block of time doesn't help every time, but it's more reliable than what I used to do, which was stare at the gulf between my blank page and where I wanted the story to be till I got stressed out.

That first paragraph, where he assumes Shelly is just parroting a YA book, is a great example—the way Darren leaps to unflattering conclusions about other people makes me want to see him proven wrong.
Not that I dislike him for it—he falls neatly into "likeable jerk" territory (where very few protagonists manage to reside).
Still want to see him be wrong though.
My work schedule is finally sane. More chapters to come soon.

It's been killing me that my uploads are this slow, so I've made some changes to my schedule that will give me enough time to make it possible to write more and read other people's stories too (Closing shift only to come back for opening the next day is preposterous). Won't take effect this coming week, but should apply to the week after that.
Want you to know I appreciate you all, and I'm sorry I've been so distant. All I have to show for my dayjob is a student loan defeated just in time to take on more this fall.

There's a huge section of blank space in this chapter for some reason. Just a bit after "Her aim wavered", which cuts off mid-sentence.
Might be how my browser rendered the chapter, or might be Honeyfeed's editor being fussy again.

Thank you. I still have a long way to go toward mastering comedy writing, but for now I'm working with the principle that everyone in the main cast should be susceptible to some type of comedy.

Thank my overzealous imagination and thank honeyfeed for truncating long titles, but at first I thought your story was called "My Government-Issued Girlfriend Can't be Trusted"
Which is probably just what Nishikata was thinking, lol

Dang, Minato might call himself a realist, but he's quite cynical about normal people in general and women in . . . well, roughly half the population doesn't narrow it down much, so I guess that's in general too.
Props to Mari for being brave enough to take a leap of faith, but this guy is gonna take a lot of work.
Thank you. I tend to avoid telling the reader how hot the characters are, so when I do drop it in I try to make it intriguing.
And in this chapter we see Jiwoo being as abrasive as steel wool. And Darren likes it.
My brother in christ, don't stick your little Darren in crazy.
Sorry it took longer to get this one out. I'll keep trying to sustain a two-chapter-per-week schedule, with one posted Wednesday and one on the weekend, but my work schedule varies wildly week to week, so there will be some disruptions.
The good news is that I've written enough of this story that I've got a good sense now of what it wants to be, so the future chapters will have an easier time finding their fun and should draft up faster.
