If Aud had gotten found by Rowan and Dyna when she was little, she might have gone down a much different path.
Touching on Aud's past was essential, because it shows just how similar her circumstances are to Nyk's. But where Aud is loyal to Lulu until the end, Nyk gets pushed too far.

They do handholding too. And various other things that they haven't learned the terminology for yet.

If I had to put a number on it she's roughly 10 years older than him.
I've always envisioned Mysha as more of a big sister figure, a one-sided childish crush. That's just my interpretation though.
That may be intentional.

Yep. I tried to write them as getting along very well in terms of personality. But... the heart wants what it wants.
The computers are writing the textbooks, be very afraid.
Tomboys are great for stirring things up.
Why fight against the system? The system is pro-childhood friend. Haven't the childhood friends suffered enough?
Troublesome. Abnormalities must be purged.
Teenage hormones aren't though.
