ALRIGHT so it’s actually been a little bit since I read these chapters..
AND I CANT BELIEVE YOU PULLED THE SISTER IN THE HOSPITAL TROPE FOR VICTOR HAHAHA
I gotta say though, you sort of gave me what I wanted with the dynamic between Abigail and Victor. As of the present moment, it seems that Abigail carries out his ideals better than he does himself (since clearly he forsook them). Victor sort of gave Abigail a purpose.
But enough about her. I have a LOT to say about Victor.
First off, he was the most idealistic precocious pedantic child ever 😭 BUT that is relevant. Even after seeing his ideals devolve from the tragedy that occurred, I still feel like he doesn’t fully accept that his role is simply self-preservation now. With this chapter, I can confirm that he once was inherently selfless and righteous (and I think it’s pretty cool how Abigail becomes a reflection of that later on). That is the foundation of his character, and I don’t think it could be wiped away so easily even with an event of that magnitude. Sure, he might think that it’s all pointless right now, but I can definitely see there coming a time where, perhaps, he attains the power he wants and has a change of heart.
My favorite part here was definitely the transformation of his perspective on the world, from one of hope to one of despair. Death—something so common, was unable to be comprehended by him until he saw only a glimpse of through what happened to Alice. I can say that his ideals were quite tenuous to be broken by something that seems so ubiquitous, and that means he actually is quite naive, but maybe that’s just what’s needed.
I’ll stop here and say this, though:
This is a good foundation for what’s to come. Im not gonna lie and say it’s perfect, but it sets things up nicely. I guess we’re on to the big stuff soon haha
