I quite enjoyed this though I will say I found it a bit difficult to differentiate between the imp and the "elf" when they were talking. Maybe bold the imp's words, or center them in the page? I'm not 100% sure what would help, but I'm eager to read more about this automaton and his "elf" companion (love that twist btw).
