Mmm, I see. Well, personally prolly would have gone for the way you seem to hate. Though it didn't need to be thaaat long. Also I don't think it would have brought a thriller vibe But I can understand that if you know exactly what it is about with actually a ton of details, it may be difficult to choose what to keep. Another way could've been for the gang to eavesdrop a convo between the Aunt and Faber (in a alternative where both were in the lab-bunker for instance)
Psy horror.... I don't consume lots of them (I think?) so idk. There was tension in a good part of the chapters mm.. maybe I'd expect the atmosphere to be more disturbing, but in either case I think it's globally coherent with the prompt :3

So, overall, good anime.

Minus points would be the powow harvesting, as the concept itself wasn't enough explained. It sounded like some sort of plot device thing in a too blatant way. Also the ''it's okay'' overused thingie, especially in dialogue.

Overall smooth and pleasant reading, apart from some moments that I pointed in past chapters. The plot was interesting and I like the reveal about the soul-slaying thing. Xiaolian ACTUALLY being many in her head is peak. The characters feel distinct, I just wish I could learn to know better Xiaolian uwu

Ok. I'M BACK.
SO. My theory, given that they're all three back at the very end; even Xiaolian, is that she used that power (maybe even the three of them did since they all seemed to be kinda glitching, so close to die) that the aunt and Mme Faber wanted. It altered reality to the point that Xiaolian could be saved and the everything around them shaped into the ending scenery where they could finally feel safe u.u

Also nice chapter to read, the only thing dampening it (it's also true in some past chapters) is with the dialogues which are ''it's okay." "It will be okay.". Not true for the chapter's beginning though uwu
And the tension at the end!! Next chapter when niom~

Mmhhm, it relates indeed to the feeling-like-an-outcast thing. Even without the key she was one, but now? Even more. She has become some sort of "clown".
While in my isekai entry Amako directly referred to herself as a clown, closer to the one described in No Longer Human, Megumi is another type. More remote. But yeah, an outcast still :3
As for the key... it isn't here a symbol for "inhuman", but I wouldn't like to tell too much uwu
