Reading back over the first two parts, I think it's because it's mentioned as "his previous life", usually then comparing to the new world. So like, for example in chapter one, he's thinking about cave wall art and says "its not often I think about my previous life", then goes on to immediately start a painting about the cave art, which I didn't 100% link to earth (I honestly considered cave art to be totally a possible thing in this new world too.) Then in the second chapter, he remembers airplanes from his previous life, (and Leonardo) but it's immediately followed by the fact that ornithopters exist in this world. So I got that confused, and considered this more of an alternate reality story, where the character has some kind of "past life" not necessarily from Earth.
Okay way too long a response from me, I know xD please feel free to disregard this if it doesn't seem helpful at all! I just think your writing shows a lot of potential, and I'd love to see it get even stronger!
