And Bear goes down. Guess he couldn't tank the voltage after all. Ironically, I wonder if bear spray would have been an effective weapon to use against him. Ko definitely was the MVP swiping the stun gun, and it looks like the group is about to make their escape. But if I know anything, it's honestly 50/50 whether they escape flawlessly.

Author's Commentary #51:

Time to talk about Chapter 51: Tetsuka's homecoming.
As promised, here's a nice little chapter showing Tetsuka returning to the mansion. I honestly just wanted to show her bonding with Harumi which is why I had the chapter occur now.

As for Madoka and co, they'll be pursuing Eriza who appears to have stowed away on a Casino cruise ship bound for London. I'm sure that alone hints at what the next arc will be. As such, it might take a bit longer than usual for this next arc to come out, as I'm likely to extend the arc compared to it's original counterpart in order to make it more enjoyable. I hope you're looking forward to it.

Author's Commentary #109:

Time to talk about Chapter 109: ILU's investigation.
In this chapter, we finally get a proper look at the scumbag, Akuma Ookuma. Some of the other members of the Illumous council are also revealed like Frank Lingua, whose name is a pun on "lingua franca". But let's give some bios for Akuma and Engetsu.

柴原円月 (Shibawara Engetsu) is how Engetsu's name is spelled in kanji. 円月 means "yen" and "moon".

His birthday is October 13th. I chose the date at random, so there's no greater significance behind why that day is his birthday.

His favorite food is spicy gyoza.

Engetsu is actually both Yuugen's older brother and Honoka's father, meaning he's also Rika's uncle. He had a more prominent role in the original, but since I restructured things in the remake, his role here got reduced. This will likely be his only appearance in the story.

大熊悪魔 (Ookuma Akuma) is how Akuma's name is spelled in kanji. 悪魔 means "evil demon".

His birthday is December 13th. I chose the date at random, so there's no greater significance behind why this day is his birthday.

His favorite food is asparagus.

As shown a few chapters ago, Akuma is a horrible parent, and the reason Ruchi turned out the way she did. Though he's actually committed other heinous atrocities throughout his long life. One was inhumanely torturing Fubuki Dakota and doing unspeakable things to break her will. Sadly, he won't be dealt with in this series, but I can guarantee that he will get what's coming to him in Escape Witch.

So I never gave the character's birthdays before, but today that's going to change. Here are the birthdays for the four main characters in the series.
Mukuro's birthday is June 30th.
Astrid's birthday is August 29th.
Sven's birthday is September 16th.
And Leona's birthday is July 28th, which is also the day the first chapter of the series was published. Happy birthday to both Leona, and this series.

Author's Commentary #50:

Time to talk about Chapter 50: Reunion.
Yuni has finally reunited with her cousins Nika and Miku. It turns out Miku was also the famous Ewetuber, Kumi all along.

二川二花 (Futagawa Nika) is how Nika's name is written in kanji. 二花 means "two" and flower". 二川三久 (Futagawa Miku) is how Miku's name is spelled in kanji. 三久 means "three" and "ancient". As for her stage name, Kumi, it's 久三, which is actually just her name spelled backwards, but has the same meaning as her given name.

Their birthday is March 3rd, just like Kasumi.

Since I'm not merging the remake with Agony! or the eventual rewrite of it, I decided to have Yuni reunite with Nika and Kumi now. There's also a hint that the final arc will be drastically different from it's original counterpart.

If you read Spice of life, you'll know how different the triplets have become from when they were young. For those who don't know, back then, the triplets used to look identical and all think the same, with the exception of Kasumi who'd only reluctantly end her sisters' sentences. Speaking of Ryokoma, Kumi actually has still been going there, but nobody recognizes her due to how drasticly both her appearance and personality have changed.

As for the series, it will probably go on break again until the next arc is finished, though I might release one more chapter focusing on Tetsuka before that, so look forward to it.

Author's Commentary #108:

Time to talk about Chapter 108: Reika's ally.
If we don't count bonus chapters, the remake has now surpassed the original in terms of chapter count. Even including the bonus chapters, I'm sure the remake will eventually surpass the original in chapter count there as well. As for the chapter, it introduces Reika's trusted partner, Mutsumi Nakajima. Mutsumi is another Escape Witch character that appears here, though unlike in Escape Witch, her role will be much more minor here.

中嶋六実 (Nakajima Mutsumi) is how her nae is spelled in kanji. 六実 means "six" and "sincerity" while 中嶋 means "inside" and "island".
(If I made any mistakes with the translation, feel free to correct me).

Her birthday is June 27th. There isn't much meaning behind the date, though the date 6/27 could reference the fact that Mutsumi's name means "six" and that she is 27 when Escape Witch takes place. In this story, she's only 21.

Her favorite food is coffee cake.

In the original, I first focused on Mao and then did a flashback of what happened while she was getting used to her new environment. Here, I decided to jump around and have everything occur chronologically. I feel the change is better narratively and makes the story flow better.

Author's Commentary #107:

Time to talk about Chapter 107: The first domino.
Mao is already starting to get the love and care she deserves and can finally try the food she's wanted to try for years. Reika meanwhile is busy formulating a plan to both protect her and take down Ookuma's sycophants.

Rika's now in on the plan, though she actually wasn't in the original. I really felt Rika being more involved in this plan was better narratively which is why I decided to have her be present at Mao's rescue. There's another reason too, but I'll talk more about that in a future commentary. Though if you already read the original or Escape Witch, I'm sure you can guess what I'm alluding to.

Author's Commentary #152:

Time to talk about Chapter 152: Plum stupid chess.
By that title, I'm sure you can guess that the quality of chess displayed in this chapter was not the greatest. At least Yuusuke got a win.

Perhaps the big twist is that Plum Stupid really is Plum stupid. I felt it would actually be really predictable if a character like him turned out to be a secret mastermind, thus I decided that he'd actually be stupid. And while I did harp a bit on the game, I actually didn't have any issues making it. Though in terms of really cringe games, a Numakawa game is coming up soon.

Author's Commentary #49:

Time to talk about Chapter 49: Death game of Venice Part 3.
The climax of the Venice arc is here and so is Nero, aka Muramasa Jouzu. The fourth plumber has also been revealed to be P. LaFleaur who is actually a Spice of life character as well as Stromboli's half-brother.

ピー・ラフルール (P. LaFleur) is how LaFleur's name is spelled in katakana.

His birthday is February 6th. The reason for this is because the Chester Cheetah Undercover campaign, which features Chef Pierre, whom Lafleur is based off of, aired in 2006. Thus, I decided the closest date to that would be 2/6, February 6th.

ネロ (Nero) is how Nero's name is spelled in Japanese. However, he is actually the infamous 0mni-god, Muramasa Jouzu. As such, 村正上手 (Muramasa Jouzu) is how it is spelled in Japanese. 上手 means "skillful" while 村正 means "village" and "correct", however, it is also the exact same surname of Sengo Muramasa, a famous Japanese swordsmith.

His birthday is October 10th, which he notably shares with Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto, Xanxus from Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, and Gintoki Sakata from Gintama.

Nero did appear in the original and ultimately did save the day. But here, I needed to rewrite some things mainly because this will likely be his only major appearance in this story. I will confirm he is 0mnipotent (yes he does spell it with a 0) which is why he's so powerful. Speaking of which, since Muramasa Jouzu is what ultimately ties my novels together, the universe all of them take place in could be referred to as "The Jouzu-verse".

While Jester's off to the moon, the Venice arc isn't done just yet as it seems Yuni's about to reunite with her cousins. This is already a major change from the original as Yuni didn't reunite with them until the last arc. Here however, I decided it would be better for them to reunite now.

Author's Commentary #48:

Time to talk about Chapter 48: Death game of Venice Part 2.
This time things are shifting towards Serika who ends up having rematch with the water tank. Even though she beats that with ease, Stromboli proves to be a bit more challenging. In the original, Stromboli never really appeared, but here I decided he needed to show up, both because he's a Wario parody, and to antagonize Serika.

ストロンボリ・カノリ (Stromboli Cannoli) is how Stromboli's name is spelled in katakana. Stromboli is actually one of Illumous' 12 governing members, making him the first one that's fully seen in the story.

His birthday is October 21st, which is the day Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Wario's debut game, released. Since Stromboli is heavily based off of Wario, this is a fitting date to be his birthday.

Now only Yuni remains to be saved. The question is whether Madoka was able to solve the riddle on her own, or if she'll need some help. I guess thes also the question of how Jester will be dealt with considering he's in a golden ball hovering above the city. Perhaps it's time for a certain chunni to enter the story.
