Cancer defeated with the power of love. And I would assume a lot of chemotherapy, but mostly love.
All jokes aside, I’ve been a big fan of this story pretty much from the moment I picked it up, and even though it has a happy ending, I’m sad to see it conclude. Ichi and Izumi have been a wonderful pair to follow from start to finish, and it feels weird that there won’t be more of their antics to read about from here on out.
As I’ve mentioned before, I do have my issues with this story. I think the sudden worsening of Izumi’s cancer felt rushed and unearned, and the resolution honestly wasn’t that much better. From a readers perspective, it felt like half a chapter of worry that she was gonna die, only to immediately breathe a sigh of relief. The tension that should have been there just… wasn’t.
That being said, the story itself is one I can safely say I genuinely love. The romance was incredibly sweet, the main characters are likeable, and the subject matter of Izumi’s disability is handled with just the right amount of grace and understanding. The general feeling across the board made me think of A Silent Voice, which may just be one of the highest praises I could offer.
So overall, while I think certain elements could use an overhaul, I’m really glad to have read this story. I think it’s one that’ll stay near and dear me.
