The dating sim was to force himself to dream about a school setting, lol.
And yes, the major plot point of this novel is Haru getting motivated to do things in real life, if only using it as an excuse to have more fun in his dreams.
As for the crepe, it's like a kid handing you a ball of mud and asking you to eat it. You'd get annoyed and smack it away too. lol
