now you can see why it’s my favorite lol. and just like Deflowered had its partner chapter with Our Last Night right after, I view Goodbyes right before this as the partner chapter to this. Sayane reaches her final performance with her soul at peace, accepting that she may finally die and vanish. but she perseveres. she kept her song even against the silence. she hit rock bottom when she arrived, literally had to go to the underworld, in the deepest depths of the realm, where she found her voice once more. she started over at rock bottom and now she is at the absolute top of the world. from rock bottom indeed. and Azag, the best boy. from the beginning he has been there helping and holding her. their first moment together was Esca holding Sayane as they fled. now he holds her once more in Esca’s hand to help her, even if it means he’ll die too. he is also at peace. when Sayane died, her view of herself and her life was that one quiet, bitter failure and defeat. now, as she looks at the dreadnought that may kill her, it is over her, just like the sound equipment. but she closes her eyes and smiles, saying that this life is beautiful. from a power scaling perspective, she started with nothing but her voice. then she had help from the audience. then she had Echo’s instrument. then she had the lost sacred instruments and her crown. and now here at the end, she is in absolute harmony with the voices of all the murdered songstresses and the great Harmony shards.
and the final song!
I didn’t want to reveal the name is the chapter title to avoid spoilers. but the very first thing she sang in this realm became the basis for what might have been the last thing she sang. but there at the beginning, it was a somber, defiant song. now, it is full of growth and perspective and triumphant.
I truly loved this story, this world, this music, these characters, and of course, the best girl of the best girls. Sayane forever.
