I lol'd at the mountain's name because of my same handle. You've used Ichiban (一番?) for the lead and is Kaiju supposed to be the Godzilla-type 怪獣 or something else? How do you come up with your Japanese names? I'm fluent and lived there for a bit, so I love to see how people use the language.
Strong hook for the first chapter. The threat is really clear and the characters are coming into focus. Very thriller pacing. Fun read.
