Well, I never thought it could be compared to a black hole, really, haha. As it's said, it's a large pit that was dug deep beneath the surface using a spell, leaving only a thin (though not paper-thin) layer of earth reinforced by magic for people to walk on. This thin layer is connected to the spell that triggers the trap. Once activated, the spell destroys the layer of earth, revealing what lies beneath and causing anyone or anything above it to fall into the hole.
