Don't want to give any spoilers here, but while I do fill in some details on this, and will continue to in the chapters not yet published, I don't have plans to tie it together explicitly. It may be a mistake, but there are two reasons.
First, there's already a lot of exposition, and I feel like I leave enough clues by the end for readers to piece it together. I hope I'm not mistaken in that, but I don't want to insult my readers' intelligence by spelling everything out all the time.
Second, I want to leave room for a sequel or two, so I need more room for Ashtin to grow and the readers to get to know him.
It's a good question though. Regarding Christianity especially, I had hoped the first two chapters would show that he was dismissive of religion, but I also didn't want it to be so insulting that Christian readers felt personally attacked. I'm not trying to put anyone down for their faith, and that's a difficult balance.
