This was an interesting experience reading, to say the least. The style is one of the most unique I've seen on Honeyfeed, and it's not really close. You have dialogue that seems to flow back and forth, and combined with the story it's a mixed bag overall
Starting with the characters, this is where it shines, and also completely falters for me. There wasn't anyone I disliked really, the mc is very unique in how he's described in a good way. However, that accent he has just completely takes me out of the story every line the MC speaks. Having an accent is great, but at times it just feels so strong that it becomes hard to read, especially for someone who reads as fast as I do. I was constantly having to do a double-take making sure I read stuff correctly, and when I slowed myself down to fix the issue, it just didn't vibe with me really. Again I think the characters themselves are fine, good actually, it's that accent that ruins it for me
Plot-wise it's hard to grasp in the beginning but picks up. To be honest I didn't even know beyond waters was an isekai until you told me because of how hard it was for me to keep track of what was going on in the beginning because of his accent.
The world is the one thing I got no complaints about really for what I've read so far. Feels really unique and exciting, with creativity pouring from the pages.
Overall, I agree with the vibe of the comments below me. It does feel like a poem, and I like that fact, but I also feel that poem-like aspect gets old quickly, and is extremely hard to read. I do feel like a 3rd person perspective would massively help the story, and that the accent is massively holding back a story with a lot of potential and would discourage readers because of it
When I did the based rankings, this would have been a quick drop for me, when storywise I shouldn't have been. When it comes to the plot it's very much above average with unique and likable characters, but I wouldn't have given it a chance because of the style
Still tho, despite all I said, it's still a good book, and I'm still ready to read more when I get the time
