Elly is the MC. And so is Blake. The story is about both of them. While Blake is certainly "the hero", I believe that Elly's arc is just as important to this story as his.
And you can see why I said this is a good stopping point. It's a nice moment of happiness where Elly has some peace.

It's certainly chemistry in action, no argument there. But they won't be going into the science, or "chemistry" behind behind potions until later classes, introductory potions are basically "here's what this ingredient is and how to find it" and "add these two things, they do this thing". With a little bit of skill involved in making sure you create something that won't blow up in your face.

I see, then that means the more advanced potion courses will definitely have some closer overlaps to chemistry. Especially the classes where students stop just following the recipe wholecloth and instead begin studying the underlying reasons for the potion reactions and how you can use knowledge of those reactions to synthesize potions that are uniquely designed by them.

But that's like third year and beyond, it'll have no place here.

I'm glad you think I conveyed the opposites attract angle well! (Even if they aren't attracted to each other yet) Yes, and there's a reason that Reed has no POV chapters. We would get a much clearer understanding of her motives and persistence if we did, but I think it would probably ruin a lot of her charm to see her side of things in volume 1.

Reed is certainly still supposed to be annoying, I don't think she'll ever stop being that if you're not a fan of teasing playfulness. But if I had a visual medium to properly convey the ara-ara that might change. 😤

Honestly it's been so long since I've been in a chemistry class I can't say that you're not right. All I know is that I remember my chemistry class being much more "theoretical chemistry memorize these chemical compositions" then it was "practical chemistry add blue beaker to yellow beaker don't blow shit up" which is what a potions class is here.
