It's not relevant for volume 1, but since you asked, yes, it is possible for people with training to increase your mana level, but only to a certain degree of growth. Someone with a mana level of 500 isn't going to reach Chloe's numbers unless they had a view hundred years to spare.

It's less a totalitarian system and more a specific totalitarian teacher, though.
And of course she's also the PE teacher because bad things always happen to good students. Hopefully the other teachers can help pick up the slack.
And I can't speak yet to Blake's abilities at reading people, but for what it's worth Elly is about as easy to read as it gets.

Hmm, that's certainly an interesting thought. But if you think about it, it would be pretty natural for a kid to be scared of giant firebreathing lizards on base, right? But Blake just finds them cool. Remember, all he knows about dragons are pictures in books (and it's less a picture book and more a book with demonstrative pictures), so he's certainly idealizing them a lot. I wonder how 5 year old Blake would react to a REAL dragon looking down at him hungrily.

Thank you for your comments! And remember, Blake is a child. I like dogs, but seeing a dog skeleton as a 5 year old would still have freaked me out, and a dog skeleton is a lot smaller than I am. In his mind dragons are majestic flying creatures, so seeing them as huge looming skeletons in the dark catacombs is pretty jarring.
