Writing since 2016 to find the fine line between the bittersweet beauty of sorrow and the feeling of deep human connection, creating worlds that provide shelter from reality, but also embrace its way of being.
I occasionally write comments/critiques that could be short stories on their own, so sorry for all the flooded comment sections 😅

Maybe I can add onto that as well, because you (coincidentally?) mentioned the webnovel writing in the same lines as being Otaku and that illustrates this differentiation really well: It is not necessarily about actively hiding that you are an Otaku, but it is more about avoiding any discussions with people who don’t get it (at least for me). Same with playing Videogames. I can only speak for my country but these things that have been deemed rather geeky are celebrated much more during the last 10 years.
It’s not the first thing I tell people upon meeting them, but if the conversation unfolds this way, I have no problem of dropping this. Actually, I would say that I am less likely to tell people that I am writing, since it would feel strange if they search and read my stories - a rather personal product of myself. I would not deny it when people talk to me about it, though.
But I think that Haruhi would go as far as to take a fake girlfriend in order to protect this information about him. He has a much deeper love for his Lilia-Chan.
Again, I can only speak for myself and my own country. It might be much different in Greece, than in Germany, but currently it is like Haruhi has a split personality that he exchanges whenever needed. Unless he has a personality disorder, I assume that both parts would influence the other to some degree. And I’m not saying there is no way of justifying this harsh split, but that it had not been done and I assume that the next chapter(s) will probably play a crucial role in this.

And about the Otaku definition: For me we all aren’t (unless you guys hide that sweet Dakimakura of you cute Waifus/Husbandos in your wardrobe 😜😏). We are just people enjoying the medium of Anime and Manga and Japanese Culture.

@Katsuhito: I’m currently trying to bring the third and fourth chapter across the finish line, but if all things go fine, then I might publish it the upcoming Sunday. And it’s funny that we are just talking about this, but I’m also touching upon „hiding“ some part of your interests for one reason or another 😉

Haha, I really like Kotone … and the rest of his family as well, actually. They seem to have some witty blood running through their veins 😂
I can already imagine them taking in his new girlfriend full-heartedly. But I assume that this will still need a bit time until we are there 😁

And Uuuhh, the Anime Con is going to go down. It’s really funny, actually: Next Friday I’m visiting a big Anime/Manga Convention in my area, so I’ll probably receive the full experience next week 😂

But now I’m really interested how Haruhi will take in the whole convention. I mean we already saw that he has his obsession over Lilia-chan, but at least for me it hasn’t gotten fully apparent why he likes her so much. I mean maybe this is just me, but I feel like you currently only told me that he loves Anime and Manga and he did not yet prove this point.
Maybe it is a structural issue in the plot’s foundation: you made things harder for yourself through constructing his character in a way that his otaku part is rather independent from the ikemen part. I mean there should be interconnections: Otaku is not a hobby, it is a life path. It might be a question of definition, but I only see obsessive or near obsessive anime and manga fans as Otaku: People who have their home filled with PVC Figures, Dakimakuras and loads of other merchandise. The term itself is even connoted negatively.
So I think the next chapter will be crucial on how you manage to merge the two seperate hearts beating in Haruhi‘s chest into one. Best successes on that! 😊👍

And btw. I think that Ichika‘s friends seem rather weird at first but I could imagine that they all have their wholly different qualities that make Haruhi still enjoy their company (and lead him to embrace his secret Part even more) 😊
