Thanks, Momentie, I'm glad you liked it! 😄 I had a lot of fun writing this chapter. I wanted Peterson to have some kind of "entrance ceremony" before becoming part of the crew. And Aiko was happy to oblige. 😆

Aiko has her suspicions about our boy Peterson. As we'll see, it may have something to do with her mysterious past...
BTW, "Tama"(玉 or "ball") is/was a common name for house cats in Japan. Once I found that out, I absolutely had to name Aiko's panther "Tama."😼

It figures Walmart would survive into the future. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up owning everything in the year the story is set. 😀

Peterson's good for comedy relief, to be sure! Most cyberpunk tends to be dark and gritty but I thought I'd try a lighter approach. There's still some serious action coming up, though. And yes, we'll see more of the panther! 😀😀

Yeah, and Peterson felt like a "bad guy" after the match. I hinted earlier that he might have some self-control issues, and you can see that he's horrified at the outcome of the fight. But Aiko is made of teflon-reinforced Kevlar. She shrugs it off and turns it into a "bonding" opportunity. We'll see more of her next chapter, coming this Friday. It's been a while since I've seen someone mention "directed energy" weapons in a story, which I appreciate. 👍👍It sounds a lot more realistic than "blaster" or "laser gun." (BTW, a "stock" Glock-19 doesn't have a safety or an external hammer to cock; maybe the rookie cop had a custom job?). Awesome book cover too! 👍👍

Thanks! Yeah, the cover features one of the novel's characters, Rio Akayama. Although she's lost the use of her legs, she can get around really well in a floating hover-chair. You can expect to see more of her in the next chapter, too!

Actually, it's "Peterson" but I can see how just one misplaced letter could make it "Paterson." Hmm, maybe I missed a good marketing ploy by not naming him "Paterson." 🤔🤔

I thought that was an intriguing explanation of different cyborg body types. I'm wondering now what the difference is between an "orange" and a "blue" type. 🤔 And as if the blackmail isn't enough, that quote by Pyro ("Pathetic humans and their even more pathetic bodies") really sets the tone. Classic cyberpunk! 👍👍

And there's a lot of backstory for Aiko's character, too, and a ton of unanswered questions, such as: Why is a panther following her like a domesticated cat? Why is she carrying a sword and dressed like a ninja? And why did she volunteer to become a Challenger crewmember if she's afraid to fly? I hope to answer some of these questions as the story progresses. You'll definitely be seeing more of Aiko and Tama later on...😁🐈
