I kinda get ti, those events aren't that relevant for the story or to keep with the prompt. It just seemed like some of the events mentioned in passing could have been their own story. Then again, you did skip through some stuff earlier too, so I shouldn't have been too surprised by it.
Having read the next chapter and climax of the story, expanding it might not be the best idea. Sure, it would give more insight, but going from the reveal of the problem to its solution without getting lost in the weeds is fine. It might feel too dragged out artificially if those last couple events got their own chapter.
