Basket Dictionary:
Lane: A path, usually refer to "open path to the rim".
Mark: Closely defending against
tip-off: the first basketball throw that performed by the referee to start the first round
Fast break: Quickly rushed through enemy zone in an attack (without stopping). Usually, this meant for a quick counter attack.
Bounce pass: a strong pass to your teammate and aimed to be bouncing once before arriving at your teammate's hands.
Rim: The goal/ring/net that you have to put the ball on to score.
Scrimmage: simulated game. Kind of practice match.
Dunk: duh! slamming a ball in high velocity down the rim.
Contact dunk: Making a dunk while in contact with enemy defender, usually overpowering the enemy defender while doing the dunk. Sample: Shaquile O' Neal sometimes dunk on enemy defender, overpowering them.
Layup: Just put the ball in the rim as you jump close to it, right below it.
Post-Hook: a turnaround shot near the rim by tall players, shooting the ball by swinging their arm to the rim without jumping.
Fadeaway: Jumping backward to attempt to break from defender as you shoot.
Screen: block a defender from passing through by standing right between the defender and your teammate. Need to hold hands downward and not move as you draw a contact, otherwise, it's foul.
Rebound: Repicking the ball after a shot miss. Whoever takes the ball is the team who goes on offense.
There are offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds as well.
Offensive rebound: Taking own teammate's missed shot for another go.
Defensive rebound: Taking enemy missed shot for a counterattack (change phase)
crossover: moving in pendulum swing left and right to confuse your enemy
ankle-break: make enemy stumble as they try to defend against you, usually backward, sometimes even to the point of falling backward.
three pointers: shot taken outside the three point zone, or in simple term: a long range shot.
