    Author's Commentary #129:

Time to talk about Chapter 129: In the palm of her hand.
This one's another remake exclusive, though it does borrow an idea from the original, namely Reika putting on a disguise. Everything went according to her plan, meaning Rika doesn't need to worry about the footage of her killing Hilda being used against her.

Since Cyril uploaded the footage to his channel, I.L.U. has no choice but to deligitimize his credibility as otherwise he could revive the blackmail empire and use it against them. This also marks the beginning of Ginji and Cyril's feud with one another which will continue all the way to En Passant Grandmaster. Had Ginji known that Reika had set everything up, he would have changed tactics, but since Reika is one of the smartest characters in the series, he fell right into the trap. Cyril did too as he had no idea the woman he was doing business with was actually Reika.

Now that Rika's in the clear for the time being, the story will start winding down. There will still be a few more big twists though, one of which being hinted at since the early chapters of the series. See if you can guess what it is before it's revealed.

And as for the amount of chapters left, I've finally settled on the series ending on the last day of August, though I'll also do a bonus chapter which I'll post on the series 1 year anniversary on September 23rd, meaning there's a total of 14 planned chapters left. That means, series will end with a total of 146 chapters. It's certainly been a journey, and it's hard to believe it's almost over, but I thank everyone that's supported this series thus far and hope you're looking forward to the final batch of chapters for the series.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #128:

Time to talk about Chapter 128: Money on the mind.
Rize makes her declaration and I.L.U. finds out about Hilda's death. It seems like things might get a tad bit hectic before the end of the series. Speaking of hectic, Ginji Inohara is quite the eccentric.

猪原 銀仁 (Inohara Ginji) is how his name is written in kanji. 銀仁 means "silver" and "compassion", while 猪原 means "boar" and "origin".
(If I made any mistakes with the translations, feel free to correct me).

His name and character were mainly inspired by Ginji Kiyomizu from Tying the knot with an Amagami sister. He is also Kaori Inohara's father.

His birthday is January 27th. The reason for that is because Ginji Kiyomizu debuted in chapter 127 of the Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister manga.

His favorite food is mizo soup.

Despite the fact that this series takes place canonically before En Passant Grandmaster, Ginji actually ended up making his debut in one of the chapters there. I actually wasn't sure if I was going to add him to this story, but decided to, starting with a small cameo, and now having him shown off fully in this chapter.

In terms of the story and how many chapters are left, I've actually written most of the ending chapters, but can't post them yet since I still have yet to write the stuff that happens in between this chapter and those. None the less, there is still some major plot-points to still address, the headmaster selection being the big one. Thankfully, that and one other thing will be addressed before the series' end.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #172:

Time to talk about Chapter 172: Gothic chess gamble.
Turns out Okisato's still got one more match to play, and it's against the queen of the faires herself. But to add even more intensity to the match, it's actually a Gothic chess match, meaning the board is bigger and the empress and princess are in play.

Gothic chess is a chess variant that improves upon Capablanca chess by rearranging the starting pieces in order to make things more fair. The board is a 10x8 instead of an 8x8, and the princess, also known as the archbishop, and empress, also known as the chancellor, are in play. These pieces can move like a knight and bishop and knight and rook, respectively.

Considering the fairy league is named after fairy chess pieces, I felt there had to be at least one game with fairy chess pieces fought against them. The reason it took so long to finally get a game like that in the series was simply because it took me a while to find out that you can play Gothic chess on Chess.com.

Speaking of which, the game was played between me and another player, which is why the game plays out as it did. I somehow won the game despite playing horribly, but it was my terrible moves that inspired me to have fatigue play a role in justifying why Okisato played so terribly. The man did play Red Reaper 3 times, Phantom once, and Xiao Lin and all 7 of her SPCMs. That's 12 total matches, not to mention some of them were chess variants like atomic chess, chess 960, fog of war chess, and chaturaji. Okisato needed rest, but thanks to Scharlachrot, was on the verge of losing.

Luckily, Heather, much like my opponent in the game, didn't see the mate threat before it was too late. Now everyone except Numakawa is back in Japan, but there's still a bit more story to be told in London, mainly Scharlachrot's backstory. Plus, there's the batsu for Heather which will definitely be very steamy.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #127:

Time to talk about Chapter 127: Vampire Slayer.
Rika immediately realized Hilda was in the restaurant and promptly fought her. Though what ultimately determined the outcome was Hilda foolishly destroying her phone earlier. Of course, Rika naturally would have sliced that to bits if Hilda ever tried to use it.

Hilda being a vampire is what explains her advanced age. However, there are also many I.L.U. members with advanced ages that are not vampires. I actually planned for Hilda to try and attack Rika after reforming rather than fleeing, but felt her fleeing would be more in line with her character, as she would want to prioritize getting away. Had her phone been intact though, she might have been able to sneak out a text before Rika offed her. And yes, Hilda truly is dead. Unlike Ookuma though, I.L.U. will find out about her death.

Two final things I'll talk about are some of the characters in this chapter. First up is Wexley who was present in the original, in one of the worst chapters in the series. However, I decided to bring him back, and actually have some plans for him. And finally, the grand reveal that the mysterious red-haired woman was Rize all along. Lets give them their bios.

シュナウズ・ウェクスリー (Schnauz Wexley) is how Wexley's name is written in katakana. His first name is actually a pun on "schnoz" while his surname is a pun on "wax" as I originally intended to name him "Waxley".

His birthday is November 6th. I chose the date at random so there's no greater significance behind why this date is his birthday.

His favorite food is wax food. Yeah, I had to make the joke. In terms of edible food, wax beans, and yes, those are a real food.

撫養 里瀬 (Muya Rize) is how Rize's name is written in kanji. 里瀬 means "hometown" and "rapids", while 撫養 means "comfort" and "nurture".
(If I made any mistakes with the translations, feel free to correct me).

Her birthday is August 2nd, which she shares with Asahi Saiba from Shokugeki no Soma. Ironically, she's more heavily inspired by Rindo Kobayashi from the same series.

Her favorite food, as revealed in the story, is pljeskavica with spam musubi.

Now that Hilda's out of the picture, things will begin to wind down, and the majority of the story from this point on will likely be slice of life stuff. I'm not sure how many more chapters left there will be, but I still think the series will conclude in August. Though regardless of when it does conclude, I do plan to do something for the series' anniversary on September 23rd.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #171:

Time to talk about Chapter 171: The Baron Buster gambit.
Given Okisato's affinity to Adolf Anderssen, it makes sense that he'd study the Anderssen opening. I've also come to think of new opening theories for the opening and one of them just so happened to be the Baron buster gambit. What brought this discovery about was the desire to implement a bongcloud into the Anderssen opening. And after challenging Chess.com's 2700 rated level 23 engine bot, I got the game you see in the chapter.

The game was perfect in every way shape and form which made writing the story for it all the more enjoyable. In terms of the story, the opening theme would be on blast since for the first time, Okisato gets to play white and absolutely humiliate Red Reaper by unleashing a new bongcloud opening on him. Red Reaper cussing in German was also a highlight of this chapter for me.

And as for what I said in my previous commentary about this game possibly being my favorite in the whole series, it is. While Michiko's freakout in Game #49: King David's bongcloud along with the King David's opening and en passant make it a thrilling game, this game is so much more fun from start to finish due to Okisato's dominance throughout the game. Plus I like the Baron Buster gambit more than King David's opening so there's that too.

And now, Red Reaper, the main villain of the season, has finally been defeated so it's time to talk about his sin. In case it wasn't obvious, his sin is wrath. He seeks to hunt down and inflict harm on others and is very vengeful.

And now that the main villain of the season is defeated, it makes sense to go after a maestro next, except Okisato already did that. However, he still needs to get back to Japan and Heather is still in the game. Perhaps a match-up between those two will occur soon.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #125:

Time to talk about Chapter 125: Milf mud wrestling.
With a title like that, you know the chapter's gonna be fanservice heavy, and it most certainly is. Though to be honest, this chapter only came to be because I was rushing to get a chapter out in time and just decided to put this together and call it a day. I actually had unfinished drafts for an Azuki and Harumi chapter, and since I hadn't yet finished the Hilda chapters, decided to finish up the draft so I could get my daily upload quota. So if this chapter feels a bit lacking, that's why.

One important thing I will mention which I don't think has been properly mentioned in this series is the fact that Harumi is a streamer herself, and not just any streamer, but the one with the most subscribers on Ewetube. Though as you saw, she tends to stream very erotic and NSFW things, and even did crazy stunts in the past. Since she's the founder and CEO of Ewetube, she doesn't get banned or demonetized for posting raunchy content like that. In fact, no one does. Harumi's a very vocal advocate for allowing erotic content on social media platforms. In fact, one of the top reasons she hates Ookuma so much is because Ookuma proposed banning erotic content all together and making it a criminal act to watch, create, or distribute it.

One final thing I'll mention is that the next chapter will get more serious as Hilda will be making her move. And while this chapter was a bit rushed, I am glad it at least showcased here that Harumi is a very unhinged streamer. Fitting considering her username is Milfmilk69.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #170:

Time to talk about Chapter 170: Enigma.
Phantom is certainly living up to the title of this chapter. He truly is mysterious, but sadly the wait to find out more about him will be a bit longer. Another thing that was long was the game.

While the game itself is really solid and features yet another Halloween gambit, I honestly didn't enjoy writing it as much. I feel it being 71 moves and the fact that I wanted to get this chapter done so I could upload the chapter after it were the big contributing factors as to why. Despite that, I doubt this game will make my worst games list as the game itself was brilliant. To give a bit more context, the game was played against Chess.com's 3200-rated Level 25 engine bot, with assisted mode on. As for why, I wanted Phantom to show his true potential against a Halloween gambit, and as a result, I got an epic game. It's a shame I just didn't have the motivation to give it some more flair in the writing department. But on a brighter note, Yuzuha is alive.

Zago throwing himself in front of Red Reaper did the trick, and as a result, he got challenged instead of Yuzuha. If this was a game, Zago would have been given the choice of whether or not to save Yuzuha, with Yuzuha dying if he chooses not to. However, even choosing to save her wouldn't guarantee her safety as Red Reaper would drag her in as a spectator and make the punishment for losing, just Yuzuha dying in order to break the player. And naturally, the fight would be intense as there would be essentially no help or assistance against a grandmaster-level opponent. Luckily, Zago drew so the wager was nullified, and now Okisato can face Red Reaper once again in the climax of the Season. And this next match will not disappoint as it is not only worthy enough to make it into my top 5 favorite games, but the writing is on point and it will feature a brand new opening. In fact, this upcoming game might even take the number 1 spot as my favorite game in the series, since its THAT good.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #169:

Time to talk about Chapter 169: Halloween slaughter.
In case it wasn't obvious, I love the Halloween gambit. It's easily my favorite gambit and unlike the Muzio gambit, is much easier to pull off. Anyway, Kazuya's back and he's challenging Utami.

The Utami vs Kazuya match was planned ages ago, however, I struggled to find a good place to have it take place in the story. But with this arc, I found a good place, not to mention Utami is now only 99 points below Kazuya in rating so it makes sense for her to face him now. I originally was going to just have the DESPER create a replica of the school roof, but felt Kazuya would rather have it be the actual school roof for greater effect.

I had a few games in mind for the match, but after getting an oh so perfect Halloween gambit match, I knew it had to be the game used. And as a result of Utami outright thrashing Kazuya, Kazuya's dead and Utami's back in Japan. Maida even makes a cameo too.

One notable thing I'll mention is Utami's new surname. Though it is still Enoki, it's spelled with different kanji. 恵野木 is how it is spelled in kanji and it means "to bestow", "wilderness", and "tree".
(If I made any mistakes with the translation, feel free to correct me).

This change is not noticeable in English, but I felt I needed to address how Utami felt about her surname considering how much she hates her family. Though now, she's the only member left. As such, she's now free from the influence of her family and can carve her own path. And as for Maida, she'll be getting more screen-time in the future, so look forward to seeing more of her.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #124:

Time to talk about Chapter 124: Old man Roichi and Jijiji.
I honestly thought I'd never revise the chapter this was based off of, nor ever bring the characters of Jijiji and Ro back. The reason for that is because I felt the original chapter featuring them was one of the weakest chapters in the series.

However, after finalizing the Kirikawa family tree, I decided to bring those two back. Ro, now Roichi, is now Jijiji's older triplet brother. As for Zuina's exact relationship to him, Jijiji and his wife had quintuplets, all of whom were girls. The 4th born, Nayon, is Miyoko's mother, and as you know, Miyoko is Zuina and Rebelle's mother.

In terms of other notable lines, the third oldest quintuplet, Sanari, is Fubuki and Hitomi's mother, meaning she's the grandmother of Yuni, Serika, Kasumi, Nika, and Miku. There are other notable Kirikawa members, however, they won't appear in this series.

I actually did post a full family tree of the Kirikawa clan in my gallery, but be warned there are spoilers for some of my other series, notably En Passant Grandmaster, and the characters from Escape Witch characters all sport their most up to date looks in-universe. In other words, their Escape Witch looks. With that out of the way, let's do some bios for the new characters.

切川 路一 (Kirikawa Roichi) is how Roichi's name is spelled in kanji. 路一 means "road" and "one", while 切川 means "to cut" and "river".

ジジジ (Jijiji) aka 切川 一二三 (Kirikawa Kazujizou) is how Jijiji's name is spelled in Japanese. 一二三 means "one", "two", and "three".

As for their younger triplet sister Minii, 切川 三二一 (Kirikawa Minii) is how her name is spelled in kanji. 三二一 means "three", "two", and "one" and is essentially Kazujirou's name spelled backwards in kanji.

The triplets' birthday is March 3rd, which they share with Kazujirou's descendants, Kasumi, Nika, and Miku.

Roichi and Jijiji's favorite food is soba curry while Minii's is shrimp tempura on rice.

And as a bonus, here's Sachiko. 古林 幸恋 (Kobayashi Sachiko) is how Sachiko's name is spelled in kanji. 幸恋 means "happiness" and "love", while 古林 means "ancient" and "forest".
(If I made any mistakes with the translations, feel free to correct me).

Her birthday is October 15th, which she shares with Rindo Kobayashi from Shokugeki no Soma. Though their surnames are spelled differently in kanji, Sachiko's surname is nonetheless a homage to Rindo's.

Her favorite food is rice and veggies.

One final thing I'll address is what happened with Roichi at the nursing home. Essentially, a yandere nurse there had the hots for him and kidnapped him in order to force herself on him. The nurse then fled and was never heard from again. Unbeknownst to Roichi and the Kirikawa clan in general, the incident led to the nurse becoming pregnant, meaning Roichi does in fact have descendants. One of which being a very important character in another series of mine.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Chapter:124

    Aug 12, 2024

    Author's Commentary #123:

Time to talk about Chapter 123: Jumping the gun.
This marks the end of the Rebelle mini-arc, and it certainly ended much different than in the original. In the original, Rebelle was assimilated into the Demon queen cult but then shipped off to the Roboborg union. The original plan was for her to be turned into a cyborg known as R3-B3-113, and would eventually meet her end when the Roboborg union was invaded. However, that was not possible in the remake due to the Roboborg union being destroyed before Ookuma's death, so naturally I had to revise Rebelle's fate.

While there was no chance of her surviving, I decided that unlike in the original, she'd die with her mind intact. Though this decision largely came about because it just made more sense logically for the cyanide pill to kill her before she was assimilated. She ended up coming close to being assimilated though and lost all her hair in the process. And with that, Rebelle Milverton Adler is officially dead, but her influence will live on thanks to Cyril. Hilda might have realized what truly happened to Ookuma, but thanks to Benise's antics, she's gonna be in even more hot water than before, especially since Cyril secretly recorded everything from start to finish and uploaded it online. This was what Rebelle requested of him two chapters ago when she gave herself up. She had hoped she could negotiate, and would have survived if Benise wasn't present, however, her gamble failed, so she had Cyril record and upload everything as a final middle finger to Hilda.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.
