Author's Commentary #122:

Time to talk about Chapter 122: Rebelle and Ookuma.
The end is near for Rebelle which is why now is the perfect time to do a flashback to when she met Ookuma. Unlike last chapter, this chapter saw far less revisions from it's original counterpart. Nonetheless, there still were some notable ones. The big one being that Rebelle's backstory now builds off the Zuina flashback from Chapter 81.

Rebelle was actually one of the few people Ookuma actually got close with. Though she initially saw her as nothing more than a pawn to manipulate, her intellect and ambition genuinely impressed her. Over time, she taught Rebelle more and more, to the point where it was fair to say she viewed her as her true daughter and successor. That's actually something I wanted to convey in the original as well, but I feel it was much clearer here in the remake.

Author's Commentary #121:

Time to talk about Chapter 121: Rebelle's downfall.
Despite having the same name and similar premise as it's original counterpart, this chapter is drastically different from how it was in the original. Instead of running around in terror, Rebelle's now composed and confident. Hilda also wasn't present in the original but is now taking center stage due to her being the last major antagonist of the series. Speaking of Hilda, I don't think I did her bio yet, so let's do it now.

白金ヒルダ (Hakkin Hilda) is how Hilda's name is written in Japanese. 白金 means "white" and "gold".
(If I made any mistakes with the translation, feel free to correct me).

Her birthday is February 4th. It's actually one day after the birthday of Hilda Valentine Goneril from Fire Emblem Three Houses. Hilda does take some slight inspiration from her in terms of name and design, but since Onrai actually shares his birthday her, I decided to have Hilda's birthday be the day after.

Her favorite food is boba on fish skewers.

The Hakkin family is actually the richest family in the world and is largely based in Europe. However, they have branches all over the world. Hilda hails from the Japanese branch, which is how she first met Ruchi. She has many siblings around the world, but began rising to prominence in the family due to her latching on to Ruchi's success. Of course, with Ruchi out of the picture now, the head of the Hakkin family will naturally pin the blame on everything going wrong on Hilda, in order to save face and not lose his position as chairman of the council.

As for Rebelle, she'll have one final chance to turn things around. I actually didn't intend to change up this chapter so much, but once again, last minute inspiration struck, and I think it was for the better. As such, what was once only a single chapter, has now evolved into a mini-arc. I hope you enjoy it.

Author's Commentary #120:

Time to talk about Chapter 120: Landslide.
Ookuma's party is finished and everyone couldn't be happier. Well, everyone except for I.L.U. and diehard Ookuma supporters that is. This chapter marks the conclusion of the Serika arc, but naturally there's still a bit left in the story.

This chapter was in the original, but ended up getting revised a bit for the remake. Speaking of revisions, the recent last minute revisions I made to the remake have inspired me to extend the final arc a bit. I still think the series will end in August, but now the final arc will be a bit longer than originally planned. Even though this series was largely written before I began uploading chapters of it, this next arc will be more built-from scratch, meaning I'll likely be writing out the chapters before they're uploaded. Eve some of the recent chapters I've often spent hours editing and revising before uploading. Guess it goes to show that my creative juices for this series are flowing again.

Author's Commentary #119:

Time to talk about Chapter 119: Serika's energizing takoyaki.
Serika's new battle has begun, this time it's against the books. While she did lose round 1, some honey takoyaki helped propel her to study the best she could. Now all that's left is to ace the test.

This chapter also reveals the conversation that took place between Fubuki and Rika back in Chapter 90. Fubuki honestly wasn't sure if she could truly take down Ookuma with just the testimonies, but it was the best she could think of. However, Serika killing Ookuma, and taking the SD card case with her, has truly flipped the script.

Now her and Reika formulated a new plan that is sure to take all of Ookuma's remaining sycophants down. Most notably, Rebelle is being set up to be seen as the one that leaked everything to Fubuki. If Ookuma's party gets completely wiped out in the election, you can bet I.L.U. will be pinning the blame on Rebelle, especially after Fubuki's broadcast.

Thanks for checking this out. When I first thought of the idea for the story, I was initially set on just making it a shitpost, but as I thought about it more, I decided to turn it into something bigger. As such, there's references to my other series, both on the cover and within the story. The Life stream reference on the cover is naturally referencing the epic gaming gauntlet between Leona and Astrid which resulted in Astrid going bald after she lost. I think I honestly had more fun creating the cover than the actual story, now that I think about it. 😆

Author's Commentary #163:

Time to talk about Chapter 163: Going easy on ya.
As the title suggests, Vittoria goes easy on Rodeo. While I had planned for Vittoria to be the type of character that would go easy on characters less skilled than her a while back, I actually had no idea what to do for the game itself. However, I found my answer on Chess.com.

On Chess.com, there is a category of bots known as adaptive bots, which adapt to how you play. For example, they'll play harder if you're more skilled and easier if you're less skilled. I challenged one of the bots with assisted mode on, and well that's how I got the outline for the game you see before you in the chapter. I then modified it a bit, and then voila, the game was done.

Much like Rodeo, I actually didn't realize there was a checkmate at the end. That's why I had him not realize he had actually checkmated Vittoria, because to be fair, it was a bit hard to spot, or maybe I was just overly tired when I fine-tuned the game. Now that Vittoria's out, only Melania and Heather remain, unless Scharlachrot decides to enter the battle.

Author's Commentary #118:

Time to talk about Chapter 118: Fubuki and Serika.
While parts of this chapter were in the original, the majority of it is remake exclusive. This chapter also offers some big spoilers for Escape Witch, namely the fact that Serika is actually the biological daughter of Fubuki and Akuma Ookuma. While she won't learn that fact until the time Escape Witch takes place, it does play a major role in her character development, especially when she finds out Yuni is actually her younger sister.

As for the chapter, Fubuki decided to risk venturing out to the remains of Ookuma's place after failing to get a solid lead on what happened to Ookuma. Reika surmised Fubuki would show up there eventually, and used her authority within the police to ensure that she could access the crime scene whenever as part of the investigation, in order to not arouse suspicion.

As for why Fubuki gets nervous whenever she visits her old home, its because when she returned there after bringing Yuni to Hitomi's place, the house was on fire. While no one was hurt, and Fubuki did have back-ups of the material that had been lost, she still has nightmares on what would have happened if she hadn't gotten home in time to take Yuni to Hitomi's.

As mentioned before, she doesn't want people knowing Yuni is her daughter as that would make Yuni a target for I.L.U. to kidnap. That same line of thinking is why she doesn't want to make contact with Serika, as she fears for her safety. She's honestly experiencing a wave of emotions, learning that the daughter she thought was dead is alive and well. But now that she knows what happened to Ookuma, her and Reika will work together to take down the remnants of Ookuma's party.

Author's Commentary #117:

Time to talk about Chapter 117: The restaurant's one year anniversary.
As stated in the previous commentary, this chapter was completely wholesome. After all the drama and turmoil of the previous arc, it's nice for the series to return to wholesome slice-of-life moments.

And naturally, the reveal of the baby was priceless. Poor Masaru's gonna be shell-shocked for a few days though. And in case anyone's wondering, the one year anniversary chapter in the original was actually where the backstory of Ryokoma's founding was told. I naturally had that even occur very early on in the remake, mainly because it made sense to include it earlier. And now, Rika and Masaru can happily dine on their favorite meals, but the story isn't over just yet. There's still a few unresolved plot-points to deal with, not to mention I find myself unintentionally creating new chapters last minute. Maybe this series will last past August, but I still think I'll finish it up before it ends.

Author's Commentary #116:

Time to talk about Chapter 116: A small fight and a tearful reunion.
The fated Yuni and Serika encounter has occurred, and they got in a huge fight. This marks the start of the bad blood between them though ironically enough, they never get into anymore physical altercations after this. The reason for that is whenever they think of the fight, they remember Rika making them do labor as punishment for making a mess. Of course, the two constantly get in shouting matches with each other and as hinted in the chapter, are set to become academic rivals.

As for the ending of the chapter, I was originally planning for it to be part of the next chapter, however, I didn't want this chapter to end on a somber note so I stuck it in here. Masaru is alive and well. Thanks to the Ginkawa's medical technology, he now has a new body that is exactly like how his old one was before he was turned into a cyborg. Creating a clone of his body was easy, but transplanting his consciousness was the hard part. Shiori, Emeri, and Harumi were heavily involved in the project. As for Masaru's cyborg body, it was destroyed after Masaru's consciousness was successfully transferred.

Now, the next chapter will be far more wholesome as the restaurant celebrates it's 1-year anniversary. And now that Masaru's back, things are really looking bright for the cast. And trust me, Masaru's reaction to the news about the baby will be priceless.

I feel the shorter works tend to be weirder. I usually tend not to try too much for the monthly writing challenges, but ironically, this work ended up linking all three works I wrote for monthly writing challenges together.

As such, this could be considered more of a crossover work, as I actually intend for this novel to play a part in my literary universe, which I dub, the Jouzu-verse. Though the two works that were heavily referenced, Boone's bizarre banana bazaar and Iron Wiedergänger are more on the bizarre side, especially Bbbb since that was more of a shitpost. Ironic that it ended up actually being the catalysis for a major event in the Jouzu-verse.

Some of my other stuff is third-person though. I do think the 1st-person works tend to be more unique, but I often find myself preferring to write in third-person, especially for some of the longer works. In terms of style, those do tend to have a similar vein of witty humor found in this novel, though it tends to be more prevalent in my more comedic novels.

Thanks for checking this out. To be honest, sometimes I don't know how I can create so much. I guess it all comes down to when the creative juices are flowing and I'm in the mood to write. Though for some series, I create a backlog so I don't need to worry about much besides minor edits and simply uploading the chapter.

Since this series was short, it ended up getting done quickly. I think I actually spent more time on the cover art than writing this story, though funnily enough, the cover was actually what helped keep me motivated to write this, and even gave me an idea for future works.

Speaking of my works, a majority of them take place in the same universe. The crazy thing about this novel is that it started out as just a joke, but quickly evolved into an integral novel in my literary universe, which I dub, the Jouzu-verse. I won't spoil how it does, but I will say that the cover art is full of references to some of my other novels. I honestly think that's the reason I enjoyed making it so much.

I tend to write a lot of detail in my works. Not sure if it's a flaw for strength, probably a mix of both. As for the first person view point, I tend to like doing stories like that as I feel it really adds personality to the characters.

Here, it's obvious that Cindy is seeking to gain fame and fortune and has decided that sacrificing her hair is the way to go. She didn't half-ass things though and meticulously researched how to garner the most views and put her findings to the test. Whether that all pays off though remains to be seen.

Author's Commentary #115

Time to talk about Chapter 115: After school debriefing.
This was the original first day of school chapter that was present in the original. It was going to be the exact same as before, but due to me deciding to write a chapter on what actually happened on Serika's first day of school, it's been modified.

It still retains nearly everything that was in the original though, but now there's extended scenes of Serika interacting with her friends and Reika. Nonoka probably won't have a large role in the story going forward, but she will be present for small moments like everyone eating together.

As for Frosting and Kyoko, it was originally Pika and Frosting that were the conspirators, but I decided to have Kyoko be the main conspirator due to how much of a bitch she is. And I will confirm she is related to the Takeda family.

Another thing that occurred thanks to the new chapter was Yuni's academic prowess being hyped up. If you read Escape Witch, you'll know that Yuni and Serika have a contentious relationship with each other. And the reason for that originates here in Spice of life. And best of all, it will be revealed in the next chapter. I hope you're looking forward to it.

I definitely like this version better than the original. Though I assume the girl Kazuki met back then was Koemi, but the theorist in me as saying that Takeshi had more than one granddaughter and the girl we see in the flashback is not Koemi, but another potential love interest. I've definitely been watching too many rom-coms. 😆
