That moment when you read an old announcement where Jay still uploaded twice a week, but you look at the current situation and realize that he doesn't upload at all because he literally changes locales and you just hope that he returns soon, but not so soon because you still want to catch up in his story before he returns, and...
    Please come back.

The kinds of missions from above are a reason to talk about stuff for a bit, so let's do that.

I wonder what the club missions are all about.
I thought those would be something like baking clubs and stuff... btw, Jayden should join the cooking club!
Maybe it's called the Food Wars club, who knows.
But what would they do for a mission?
Feed the hungry stomachs of a hungry horde of orcs so that they go on and don't destroy the village?
What would an archery club do?
Assist the soldiers on the walls in case of a siege.
    ...
    Wow, those actually sound realistic.

The division and joint missions are clear, too.
You basically have either a specialized one-trick party or a well-rounded one to take on certain challenges.
No problem with those at all.

It gets funny with the complementary missions, though.
Let's think back on the types of mages.
    Healers.
    Body-Boosters.
    Mind-Fuckers.
    Engineers.
Those describe them on a most basic level, no?
Imagine Mind-Fuckers strengthening the brains of Body-Boosters so that they become basically invincible.
Or imagine engineers and healers hiding behind a wide line of war-cannons and weaponry, being healed whenever a stray bullet or something actually penetrates their defenses.
There are so many cool combinations, here!

    Writing is always a journey.
His Twitter is basically him whining about having no time to write at the moment since he also took the crown of the Orion Writing Studio and basically leads that place.
    Along with some others.
That guy has too much on his mantle.

Try to get back to writing at some point.
    We miss you.

    Chapter:24

    Jul 30, 2020

    Oh, another past-time letter.
Did you try to hide it with a large chapter so that the implications aren't as obvious?
The last time this happened, we had a very short chapter and all our focus was directed just to this letter, after all.
'I did not know that the nightcrawler would do that.'
    Oh, damn.

This story within a story is probably one of the best aspects of this light novel for the moment.
I expect that to change a bit when we get to the mission and some action-bits later on, when I hope the relationships will get challenged in meaningful ways and major development happens.
For now, Aura's past gives us a mystery to worry and think about, and he's not the only one we barely have any idea about.
The past of all our mains is unknown right now.
The story will give them all the spotlight, surely.

Speaking of mains, we're actually preparing to change our mains right now, aren't we?
Or at least introduce some new ones.
Ono and Liliana, with Andri, so that we have one familiar face to guide us through this coming section, are new to Aura and new to us.
If there are ten divisions and 16 students in each one (for each year?), then we have quite a few characters to get to know in the future.

While we're on the topic of these divisions, I wonder if the growth or fall from one division to the next works like it does in Classroom of the Elite (as a single-student thing) where your income (remember the activities they could do to earn a little cash that was talked about in the beginning) decides your fate or if it's achievement-based or actually dependant on grades.
    I just wondered about that.

And they have to travel there by themselves... ok.
Aura says they're equipped to take out some bandits, but on what basis does he think that?
Does he even remember how he froze up the last time he had been confronted with a knife?
I still think it's dangerous to send students on such a mission, but oh, well.
    Let the bandit-hunts begin!

(Let's get to know our new squat first, though.)

    Chapter:23

    Jul 30, 2020

    Ethical... issues?
For all the drama Aura had with himself in this chapter, it didn't feel all that tense.
There was a dichotomy between even himself and the writing.
The others told him everything was fine, and he still worried, but it didn't read like he was worried at all.
    That annoyed me a little.

After wondering why they called it a ritual in the last chapter, I was glad for that early bit of information.
    So... rituals take a while.
    Are there battlefield rituals, too?
Like, hiding in a secured location and preparing a ritual... are there summoning rituals in this world?
Could they isekai someone else into this world, too?
I feel like that could be fun.
But back to the battlefield rituals... like, could they make golems or energy fields or bombs with rituals?
We haven't seen a lot of these powers up to this point, which makes me wonder how potent and versatile everything is.
My guess would be that most of the examples above can be done in one way or another.

Another tidbit of wonder arose from Aura's ethical issues, though.
Is human experimentation actually common in this world, or is Aura just a worrywart?
Also good to see him worry about his past life and family members for once... though he was a she back then, wasn't he... she... god, this stuff confuses me so much.
The cover features both versions of Aura, so I can't help but wonder if we will get some connection to his... her... *cough* Aura's past life at some point. Maybe the worlds are actually connected, or he can make something with his... her... *gruargh!* with his own mind, he's a man right now, to access his past memories.
Maybe they merge into one, too, and he can change forms and genders.
It would be cool if he had to choose between staying and going at the end of the series.
Well, that is a long way off.

Glad to see him succeed with an incantation, for once.
Getting some glimpses into his second childhood with May is also cool.
    Let's see how they develop.

    Chapter:22

    Jul 28, 2020

"Why don't we start the ritual?"
Why does he call it a ritual, though?
I feel like what they're doing is more of a medical procedure or an experiment... though we need to differentiate between his nightly experiments and this endeavor, I guess.

The passion of youth... or was it the power of youth?
    Something about youth.
Might Guy from Naturo said something about that, no? You know, the guy who could actually open the eight gates and didn't die because Naturo came along and saved his awesome ass.

What I meant to say by that was this, though.
Young people don't know how good they've got it. They still got the energy to do all this stuff at night and not worry that the day after would end in total disaster.
Maybe school teaches us this skill with the frequent cram sessions the night before a test we just wanted to pass and not actually do good at since we started practicing for it way too late.
I do that all the time, so I know what I'm talking about.
Books work the same way, though, since I can just stay awake for hours on end, reading a book, until... my alarm clock rings.
I jerk up from the page, looking at the number to the bottom of it.
    It looks... different.
I then look to my left and see a few books sprawled out in my bed, all from the very same session of reading.
Sweat starts forming on my forehead as I realize that I, once again, forgot to sleep, which would make staying awake in classes that much harder, or even impossible.
Wow, I really went on a tangent, there.

    Coincidences keep happening.
May and Andri's mother actually know each other.
    How surprising.
Not really, but let's pretend it is so that Jayden won't cry himself to sleep.

May was really cute that morning.
She was worried that Aura ran off... but for all the faith she has in him, it doesn't take that much to make her worry.
Such traumata are hard to overcome, yeah.
Let's hope she gets better and maybe improves her manners and private dignity a bit, while she's at it, lol.

    Chapter:21

    Jul 28, 2020

    May Tiyana.
    May of Orma.
That explains why we've seen both versions before.
There are some who know who she truly is, after all... well, they think to know who she truly is.
    Her real name is...
    May from Pokémon!

And no, that joke won't ever get old for me.
Roll your eyes all you want, that's in the same category as the Harry Potter jokes, they won't ever stop!
Well, they did because there wasn't all that magic talk around her, so the May from Pokémon jokes will have to do for the moment.

Shout-out to Christ-Jie-Bien-Aime, by the way.
That legend said "LOL wow that's good" and that's fucking right!
    Jay did something good, here.

    The word 'good' is deliberate.
There's a difference between intricately weaving a backstory like this one into the story or just... telling it like this.
It was some much-needed information regarding everyone's favorite motherly figure of Another Story, but it was just an evening talk.
    No show or event.
    Still good, though.
    I enjoyed it.

But of course, she has a tragic backstory.
Confusing and throwing up questions here and there, but confusing nonetheless.
I wonder if we ever get the chance to know why her father killed himself and what exactly happened.
Was this a Game-of-Thrones-like situation where the mother died while giving birth to May?
Anyway, I'm glad that these two found each other.

That ritual with the healthy boy being brought into the woods is a strange ritual, though.
You might want to keep the first baby that survived instead of killing it off, too, but whatever.
Otherworldly rituals aren't my strong suit.

The pieces are starting to fall into place.
The climax of volume 1 seems to be approaching.
Fasten your seat-belts, people, for Jay won't let us down.

    Chapter:20

    Jul 28, 2020

I just noticed that if you rearrange Olen's name, it comes out to OELN.
There's a piece of trivia too random to be important.

Also, May's behavior does remind me of Hestia for some reason.
That's just the picture I get from her.
I mean, I know that she's the adult version of the May from Pokémon, don't worry, I haven't forgotten, but aside from that, Hestia is the one I'd compare her to.

    So they do have weekends?
    I wondered about that.
But what is this? Employer-customized weekends? I feel like some elite schools would abuse that to get more study-time in there.
Guess I'm prone to expect the worst of educational prisons.

These characters seem to be extroverted, except for Aura.
While the others want to talk to their families, Aura just wants to see May. I guess he's semi-introverted, then.
Personally, after long trips of mine, I just want to fall into bed and do nothing. Seeing my room, my home, after so long does a better job than my family could ever do with their endless questions and inquiries about every little thing.
It was my trip, so leave me be!
I want to remember the stuff, not tell you about that one time I saw a mosquito in my room and had to protect it from my peers!

Anyway, Aura doesn't have a lot of experience talking with people his age, does he?
That scene where he asks himself how to even make man-talk happen is comedy gold.
I guess he was a she in his previous life, so that transition might be hard on him... her... him? Aura.
Kinda reminds me of the pretend-to-be-a-girl trope, also known as TRAP.
Just with countless years of preparation.

"I guess it's time to tell you about the time before I met you."

    Damn right, it is!
    Out with it, May!
What did you do to reach god-hood?

    Chapter:19

    Jul 27, 2020

It's strange that nobody did this before, but here goes:
    Cheers to Maarten!
    Thanks for editing Another Story!

Let's talk about the time, though.
With the trend we had going on until this clarification dropped on us, I kinda expected something like this:

60 ticks make up one minute.
90 minutes make up one.... what was it called?
4 of those make up a quarter.
4 quarters make up a day.

Now, this is where my theory comes in:

4 days make up a cluster.
    4 clusters make up a super-cluster.
    4 super-clusters make up a month.
4 months make up a season.
4 seasons make up a year.
4 years make up another story.

I was really counting on the 4 to play a BIG role, there.
If it was like that, a year would have... 1016 days?
    Ok, that seems somewhat wrong.
    I admit my mistake.
That's almost 4 times the actual days, lol.
Maybe if those clusters and super-clusters were only one thing called a 'week,' I would have come close.
    Let's calculate that... 254 days.
Yeah, that would've been way closer!
    Me was still wrong, though.
The fact that their days are only 18 hours long somehow fucks with my mind, too.
Imagine sleeping 10 hours a day with that rhythm... lol.
At least these people get far older on paper, right?

Well, all of that doesn't really matter.
If Jay starts using these in-universe months in the chapters, I just know I'm going to be so confused.

    These bonus chapters are great.
They provide that extra bit of worldbuilding some readers desperately crave.
Even if we wouldn't, we could just skip ahead.
    Great work, Jay & Team.

    Chapter:18

    Jul 27, 2020

I feel like shit's about to go down.
Not in the toilet, but in the metaphorical sense.
    Obviously.

... now flush the toilet, damn it!

Now that this random something is out of the way, let's dive right into this chapter.
    Second Section Briefing.

Seems like Aura became the talk of the town.
The genius student of the school, or something.
Although that's a big deal, this doesn't seem to bother him all that much. What a weirdo.

Speaking of the townsfolk, I still hope to meet my favorite character, again.
    The pottery-master.
Not only would I be unsurprised if his name was Harry (Potter) to reference the very obvious inspiration for this series (I won't ever stop teasing you with that, Jay the Jayden), but the other contestant for the favorite-character position, which is Jayde, didn't have a lot of screentime or development recently.
Even here, he sorta takes up Mia's mantle and becomes a food-obsessed dizzy-head who lost his sharpness.
I guess the combination of an adorable dim-wittedness and food-obsession has been a trope for so long that I automatically view Mia in that light, but Jayde stole that part from her.
Don't know how I feel about that.

The right number of main characters is always a topic for debate.
Real-life is a lot clearer on that front, strangely enough.
There's this concept of Dunbar's number that says that one person can comfortably maintain 150 social relationships on average, though it commonly spans between 100 and 250.
This number can be higher, too, depending on some part of your brain being larger, or something.
I'm not that well-versed in the subject.

Fictional worlds, however, don't have such a convenient number (to my knowledge).
Jayde just kinda falls short, here, though both Mia and Mimi don't get much development, either.
Maybe they're not even main characters?
Well, they're more relevant than a lot of the rest, so I'll keep them as the main cast in my book.
I guess I'd like to see more of them, is all.

Then again, Aura's meeting with this other boy was interesting, too.
When he said that he lives close to the Clocktower, my alarm bells started ringing, and it should be clear why that was.
Let's see if I'm just getting paranoid or if there's some truth to my suspicions.

Jay built the bomb in these chapters.
Now he's ready to unleash an explosion of awesome.
    I just feel it.

    Chapter:17

    Jul 27, 2020

    Don't interrupt Aura's business!
Well, a teacher doesn't care about a student's opinion, so Laero stops something that could've given us a lot of answers right now.
We all know that we'll get those answers eventually, but alright!
    Let us wait.
    We can wait.
    Kronius is on our side...
    Hehehe...

Despite having an obvious Kronos-inspired name, being the god of time sounds like so much fun until you start thinking about it.
You are everywhere time exists, at all times, experiencing it all at once.
He can't be contained in a 3-dimensional universe anymore, hence he surpasses the human limits.
I guess that does qualify Kronius of being a god.
If you start spinning that tale further, then it's apparent why Kronius and the girl (forgot her name, lol) couldn't meet.
They were beings of different dimensions from the start.
Space is contained in a 3-dimensional universe while time resides in the 4th dimension.
Combine the two and you get a 4-dimensional universe.
That's so cool to think about!

This concept kinda reminds me of that one novel by Edwin A. Abbott, Flatland. In it, a circle from a 2-dimensional world is transported to both a 1-dimensional world and a 3-dimensional world by a sphere from the 3-dimensional world.
It didn't believe in the existence of those higher dimensions until it was shown that they were, indeed possible. It's like the possibility never came to the circle's mind.
    Well, enough of that, though.

This is the shit we like to see.
This is what we came for!
CHARACTERS GROW AND WE ARE HERE TO WITNESS IT!

Good to hear from May for once, though.
    May from Orma.
Told ya that woman had some secrets to exploit, still.

In a story that deals with only four main characters, it's clear that their relationship must be developing or growing stale for a reason.
Jay skillfully manages to make me believe that these four are real, that they would act as they do.
This is roughly half-time, so let's start the second period.

    Chapter:16

    Jul 26, 2020

    Aura knows.
    He just knows.
Why did I know that he would know?
    Do you know?

For a second there, I thought Julius was like the Clockwork Planet protagonist, having extensive knowledge and interest in clockwork, but then he said he just winds the clock every now and then, shattering that theory.
    He's just the clockmaster.
Though he does find the sounds the clockwork makes beautiful, so they have some far-fetched similarities.

Speaking of men guarding clock towers, I always think of them as like a copy of the Hunch-Back of Notre Dame.
    I don't know why.
That movie probably made more of an impact on me than I give it credit for. It's a good movie, though, so I'm not ashamed of that.
Julius is no hunch-back, at least.

Clockwork is such an interesting craft.
Thinking about how these little pieces of mechanical genius manage to accurately display the correct time in seconds, minutes, hours, and sometimes even days is mind-boggling.
Though time works a bit differently in this universe.

    Well, not exactly different.
    It's just divided differently.
Every day is divided into four equal parts, which are also divided into four equal parts.
These smallest quarters of a quarter of a day are 90 ticks long, one tick roughly translating into one minute.
Four packets of those then translate into roughly six hours, and four of those roughly translate into 24 hours.

I wonder how rough this rough should be taken, though?
Did Aura just never bother to count in his head how long a tick really is?
Maybe he was smart enough to deduce that his mind wouldn't be able to accurately measure the length of a second, and so he accepted that a tick probably translates to a second, hence the 'roughly' part.
Maybe it's actually a bit longer than a second, though, and this universe doesn't need a February 29th kind-of-situation.
We probably won't ever find out.

The creation myth is cool, though.
It combines religious themes with science, having both god-like entities causing the creation of all, as well as the Big Bang when they touch.
They create an Olympus or a similar band of gods for their liking, making this more similar to the ancient creation myths we know from the likes of Greece, Babylonia, and Egypt.

I always prefer subtle worldbuilding to obvious info-dumps.
We thought we were getting into a crime-resolving situation, but instead, we... got into a crime-resolving situation... yeah. BUT, we also get worldbuilding, which is great.
It's more than we expected, and it needs more than the reader expects to transcend the bland 'good story' category.

    Chapter:15

    Jul 26, 2020

Morta and Kronius are like the Dialga and Palkia of this universe, then, being the gods of space and time respectively?
I told you May was actually from Pokémon, I told you!

Also, the goofball is a bubblyball even when eating bitterballs.
    Her name is Miaball.
    Lol.

In this chapter, the girls get some showtime.
    The emphasis lies on some.

Mimi actually managed to apologize, which was cute to see.
She didn't even lash out against dear Aura this whole chapter. Convenient to have them separated for a bit, though.
I have to wonder if they'll finish that apology in the next chapter, then?
It seems like the conversation was only partly over and not yet fully resolved.
    Like, Aura has to answer.
I guess melting the snow from an icy queen's heart would make anyone go blank for a moment.

Mia was just her usual self.
Love those little comments Jayden puts in there about their behavior.
"Don't accidentally blurt stuff out as you did during practice," they say, and I'm just here thinking that it's like her to do so.
She's just a cute bubble of a person.
    Take that as you want.

Ever since 'The Hunch-Back of Notre Dame,' I picture every man guarding a clock tower to be kind like him.
I don't know what it is.
Guess that movie had more of an impact on me than I'm ready to admit.

    Secrets are shared with friends.
Some secrets are too secret for even your friends, though.
I wonder what that spell would do?
Allow you to blurt anything out without others being able to hear you? Could you combine the two spells and cover for Mia's potential blurting-out of classified information?
The specific workings of these spells are still a mystery.

    Characters carry a story.
Jay makes them interact in a way that goes beyond the initial tropes and impressions.
    I can only repeat myself.

    The title is pretty ironic.
This is not just Another Story.

    Chapter:14

    Jul 21, 2020

I may be writing about a werewolf-story, too, but I ain't no werewolf, either!
Just wanted to make sure you know.

Not gonna lie, I have some problems reading Korean names.
I don't know why, but something about the split names does make me stop and look at the name like two times over before I have to re-read the whole sentence to actually get the meaning.
Since this chapter is very short and my comments are supposed to be very long, let's have some fun with the names, then.

    Sook-Jo.
She's the partner of Todd who can bust werewolves with his bare fists.
I'd like to see him try with my overpowered beasts, then.
That being said, he didn't come home this evening, which worried Sook-Jo.

    Todd.
    Obviously the werewolf-cracker.
Twice the size of Sook-Jo... he can't be human, either, can he?
Imagine having sex with someone half your height as a man... or twice your height as a woman...
    Doesn't that hurt?
Maybe it's not to be taken literally.

    Chang-Hoon.
The uncle of the kids and brother to... Sook-Jo?

    Yoon-Gi.
Am I stupid, or is he the only one of the twins to be named here?
Doesn't want to play with Ling.
    Poor Ling.

    Ling.
    Yung-Gi's sister?
    Probably.
The only girl in DA HOUSE!
    After the woman below left.

    Auntie Yanyu.
    Not much information on her.
    She left.
    That's it, really.

    Can't say I'm satisfied.
    I wanna read more.
There's a lot of mystery to uncover, here.

What could have possibly caused Todd to take so long?
Will Sook-Jo see her family again?
Why wouldn't Todd leave her alone for too long? Because of the Werewolves? Or something else?
Do these werewolves function as we expect them to (full moon transformation) or not?

Guess we'll find out in the future...

    I Ain't No Werewolf
    Chapter:1

    Jul 12, 2020

    I see.
We saw Mimi only through the eyes of Aura, and now that she feels sorry about her behavior, Aura is too dense to get the cues and when she will try to be more open about her feelings in the future, Aura will give her such a hard time that she'll fall back on the abuse she used up until this point.
Then she can't stop thinking about how to right her position with Aura, but she will fail again and again until she realizes that this boy won't leave her head, and she transforms into a Tsundere.
I see what you're doing there, Jayden.

Mia has no clue about Aura's situation, so her trying to cheer him up with the story of how she had a nightmare about her rabbit being eaten makes sense and is cute.
I can't help but think that Jayden wants to tell us something with this anecdote, though.
Maybe I'm overthinking it because I also read cool authors who use every opportunity to make their novel as amazing as possible, but the chance is there!
I just hope his family wasn't eaten in the previous life or this one...
    Like, ugh.
That's some 'Mai-chan's Daily Life' type stuff.
Swap two letters from that name and you get Mia.
    Coincidence?

    I THINK NOT!

(But seriously, don't look that up.)

    Random question.
    Baby Bunny vs CuddleBunny?

I have to say, though, the mere idea of proposing these kids to defend merchants and stuff seems crazy.
We only saw Aura's capabilities, but those weren't very useful against bandits, weren't they?
Maybe nobles are better trained for this kind of mission, but even then, sending the children of nobles on a mission that purposefully exposes them to mortal danger while only being in their first year and having learned jack-shit at this school is ridiculous.
I hope they get an experienced soldier or mercenary with them, at least.

While Crackers and Inductors have to put their lives on the line, the Flares will help out the hospitals.
I understand the decision, but once again, they barely know anything, so I doubt they'll be useful.
Trances have to help with something else because why not, so we can expect some cool bonding at least.

    On the subject of May:
We all know she's from Pokémon, and she has some stuff to do over there, too, like train her Pokémon, so of course, she won't be around very often.
But now she's training the first division?
How does she want to look like the most basic-ass person if she's going around being a bad-ass motherf***a like that?
She's acting like that girl from 'Abilities Average!'

    That last sentence btw:
'I guess I'll focus on the mission for now.'

I bet that's what Jayden told himself when he reviewed all the stuff he set up to happen.
    I get it, boy.
    One word at a time.

    Chapter:13

    Jul 12, 2020

THE AIRLCANA IS BACK AT IT AGAIN, WREAKING HAVOK AS JAYDEN DESPERATELY STARTS PULLING OUT ALL HIS HAIR BECAUSE I WILL NEVER STOP COMPARING ANOTHER STORY TO HARRY POTTER!
    Also, that just happened.

    Aura of Orma.
I don't know. Whenever I hear that 'of Orma' part being added, he seems just more royal than any of the other characters.
Maybe it's because Orma isn't yet established as a town in my head, so hearing the 'of' separating his first name and the town name just does something, I guess.

It's a shame that you had to put 'New Folder' down because it gave some insight into where the inspiration for Aura came from.
A male with feminine features who gets along with women rather well (though it's just his adoptive mother in this story, lol).

    'Weird love towards cow's milk.'

... When's he gonna meet a hot minotaur?
    Just asking.

Best boy award still goes to Jayde without the n.
Jayden is the author and not this character, after all.
I butchered that in a previous chapter review, but stuff happens. That's where Jay's nickname Jayden came from, anyway, so I'm not sorry.
    Not at all.

Jayde is basically Sanji in less perverted.
He's tall, nice, and wants to look out for his peeps.
He's basically the most convenient roommate you could have next to the clean-up freak who does it for everyone and the rich kid who just pays the rent for the whole apartment alone.
In the real world, that is.

    Mia is bae.
    That's basically it.

'She was seen reading a book, so this might be a sign that she likes reading as her hobby.'

Sentences like that just make me wonder which perspective these .5-chapters are written in.
    Is it Aura's?
I thought they were just info-dumps and nice-to-know stuff Jayden wants to share with us.

Mimi's irritation with us still has to be cleared up.
I wonder if she will get her own arc in this book or if it will happen in the next volume or one after that.
Her behavior just seems at odds with everything we've seen from Jayden's story, so I'm still crossing my fingers that she wasn't just another trope to fill the cast.

Mia's kinda the same with her slow-wittedness but still being in section 3.
Maybe there's a secret aspect to the ratings of the students like in Classroom of the Elite, where they get divided based on the failure-gradient they house.
If you haven't read Classroom of the Elite, you don't have to understand that.

May 7th was like two months ago.
I'll refrain from wishing him happy birthday because it could spell his doom if he receives it so much later.
    Next year, then.

It's funny to hear how this story climbed through the ranks.
Chapter 10 was short but it was important, and we noticed.
    Don't worry.

He will announce a new member to the team in the next .5 chapter?
    Should I be hyped?
    Is it a hypeman?
    I hope it's a hypeman!
Then I could be hyped all the time!
