I also think switching the point of view to Barbara's was a great decision; it really increased the immersion factor. Frankly, I'd love to read more from her perspective in general (maybe that could even be a whole 'nother book 📖).

I'm glad you asked; this information is going to be part of the appendices now 👍🏻

The 'Tarl-' part comes from the Tarlroot, a fictional root used to make their famous Tarlroot Ale and other products.

The '-mere' part comes from the 'upwards' streaming salty river that flows near Tarlmere. This river (which is referenced in the chapters 'Outskirts' and either 'The Blue Lake' or 'The Ascend', or both) was either a whole sea historically or was intended to be a sea at some point.
But, nowadays, things are quite unstable in the Outskirts.

Lameth was one of Tarlmere's guards. He was fighting by Roric's side and, should you count them, he was the last remaining.
His name is one letter away from a real historical name.
