Ah, back at it again with the unfortunate language.
Calling Grace an 'opportunity' is pretty weird, in more ways than one. Bar the more or less unintentional objectification here, it's a little funny how Haru refers to this as 'the word his father used'. While at the very end, he seems to be very against his parents' ideals and wishes and what-nots, this is strangely, the one thing they see eye to eye to. The 'chasing' of opportunities. Because relationships need to be chased.
But beyond that, there's also the mother's comment. How she expects him to make progress on all the fronts, one of said fronts being a relationship. As if it's all some form of quantifiable process to her. But see, Haru doesn't really go, 'that's dumb, wtf'. Doesn't oppose it, not even slightly. In fact, he embraces it with some form of renewed pathos. Very adamant to show his parents how serious he is about pursuing this girl.
And sure, you can brush me off for cherry picking something out of a bundle. But when the relationship is the last talking point, aka. the focal point, and when that seems to be the one thing that's really important and on Haru's mind, it really puts forward a certain picture. You get the easy feeling that, indeed, that Haru is talking about Grace. And it appears some other people got the same impression as I did, so what do you know? Maybe I'm on to something.
That's all my reads for today. I'll be back for more tomorrow.
Bubbles, out.
