At first, the memories/flashback from Kiro confused me. I understand it is meant to leave the reader with questions and delve into a sub-plot of the story that will come into play in the future.
As I went along the chapter, it was easy to determine the school atmosphere you were going for. I am not used to those cliques, and I might be misunderstanding if they are trying to be reflections of how American schools work in fiction due to mention of, for example, Jocks. That made me disconnect for a bit, however, the atmosphere feels real and palpable.
What I enjoyed the most was the fact of the setting being pre-established. You show that the fact monsters and creatures roam around is not something recent, but instead that it might have been that way all along from the start.
I cannot say I feel a connection yet with Kiro given this is part 1 of chapter 1, but hopefully, I will learn more about him to feel attached and wishing to know more about him.
