I hope this chapter was able to help you enjoy your weekend even though this isn't as long as some of my other chapters. 🙏

When you mentioned the blond man's sob story feeling injected, I tried looking back to where it could have been okay to start building it up from. Maybe from when he and Davis were waiting for Viola outside C.W.I's entrance while she was off somewhere else? It probably would've ended up with just Davis learning the truth and killing the blond man on the spot without getting that scene you enjoyed, though. Still, I got what you meant by injected, and big thanks for pointing that out as I always want to develop my skills further whenever possible. :)

There were a few things I was considering when writing the scene that made Davis want to cut ties with the blond man.

One of them was about who was going to become angrier after learning of Lucas' unwilling involvement. That role was unanimously given to Davis since he had been close friends with Lucas for many years, unlike Viola who isn't close to Lucas at all due to only reuniting with him recently after spending 5 years studying in Xina. Her level of concern for him only stemmed from him being family. That was why she was able to keep most of her cool and restrain Davis even though she too wasn't please with what the blond man said.

Another involved a trope that annoys me, especially in anime. It's when someone loudly voices out their intentions. I've always believed actions speak louder than words, so having Davis lash out at the blond man in silence but be portrayed full of malice got the message across directly as well as shown how much he treasures Lucas as a person.

I miss Lucas and Rio too, but this arc isn't over yet! I'm hoping to end it in about 3 more chapters. Even though they didn't play an active role, I hoped the constant references to them as well the intentions of the player characters of this arc kept Lucas and Rio relevant enough to make for an easy reacquaintance once the spotlight returns to them!

Oh, it's been a very long time, alright!

Compared to Davis' number of appearances in Volume 1, Viola only appeared in 2 chapters! With that in mind, I wrote this re-introduction almost like you were meeting her for the first time.

When you mentioned seeing her as a badass for the first time, I was wondering if you forgot something from her first appearance. I planned Viola to possess martial arts skills before I wrote her into the story, and she displayed a hint of what she could do in her debut. It was when she saved Lucas from the biker student during the school brawl by striking his pressure points to render him temporarily unable to walk before sending him skidding across the ground with a one-inch punch.

So far, the entire story covered 2 days. It started on a Sunday morning after Lucas went 27 hours in the Underground arena and it's currently Tuesday past midnight. I'm still surprised I actually wrote so many chapters to take place in such a short amount of time!

I explained in this chapter that Viola had no special reason for being in San Desquiciado other than to explore. Since she just moved to Cameron's Feint, she had to start over in a lot of things with one of them being familiarity with her surroundings. She could have considered leaving after dealing with Austin and Sage, but she ended up reuniting with Davis before making her next move.

San Desquiciado is indeed kind of its own world. To emphasize this, I even wrote that some time ago, it declared independence and got renamed to what it is instead of being known as Cameron's Feint's Northwestern district. I kinda based it on the concept of dangerous worlds from some videogames, where these places have lots of dangers like high-leveled monsters but there are also special rewards waiting for those who manage to overcome its challenges.
