Oh, it's been a very long time, alright!
Compared to Davis' number of appearances in Volume 1, Viola only appeared in 2 chapters! With that in mind, I wrote this re-introduction almost like you were meeting her for the first time.
When you mentioned seeing her as a badass for the first time, I was wondering if you forgot something from her first appearance. I planned Viola to possess martial arts skills before I wrote her into the story, and she displayed a hint of what she could do in her debut. It was when she saved Lucas from the biker student during the school brawl by striking his pressure points to render him temporarily unable to walk before sending him skidding across the ground with a one-inch punch.
So far, the entire story covered 2 days. It started on a Sunday morning after Lucas went 27 hours in the Underground arena and it's currently Tuesday past midnight. I'm still surprised I actually wrote so many chapters to take place in such a short amount of time!
I explained in this chapter that Viola had no special reason for being in San Desquiciado other than to explore. Since she just moved to Cameron's Feint, she had to start over in a lot of things with one of them being familiarity with her surroundings. She could have considered leaving after dealing with Austin and Sage, but she ended up reuniting with Davis before making her next move.
San Desquiciado is indeed kind of its own world. To emphasize this, I even wrote that some time ago, it declared independence and got renamed to what it is instead of being known as Cameron's Feint's Northwestern district. I kinda based it on the concept of dangerous worlds from some videogames, where these places have lots of dangers like high-leveled monsters but there are also special rewards waiting for those who manage to overcome its challenges.
