Thank you for the nice comments. I'm not sure I conveyed it properly, but both of them have trouble communicating at this time because they don't know each other well yet, but each are harboring crushes for the other, and because they're unsure of how to best bridge their cultural differences. Chika's been in this world for a while, but she's never talked about these kinds of subjects with anyone before. Both of them don't know what to expect when it comes to how the other will react, and that makes communication a scary prospect.
And yeah, the "Please, be reasonable" line is messed up. Luckily, I've only had to witness it a few times in my career, but it was always when someone was trying to get away with something gross, like justifying sex-based discrimination. Thankfully, I've only ever seen it make things worse for the speaker.
