Pros: nice style of writing, well defined characters, well described monster.
Cons: You do something which a lot of writers do. You'll write, 'Hi,' muttered Character A. I, the reader, have already read 'Hi' in a neutral tone of voice, so you adding muttered or shouted or whispered after the fact is you trying to change the tone of something that I had already read in my head. If you're going to set it up as muttered, do it like this: Character A muttered. 'Hi.' Also, you should be using said for the vast majority of sentences anyway, because the reader is reading the dialogue, and 'said Character A' should just be a indicator of who is speaking.
