while I definitely enjoyed the what happened here, for the most part, the font/typeface selection makes the reading experience a bit of a challenge for me (it feels like the text is unnecessarily bolded even though I assume this is standard font). Maybe its just me but I notice I am straining myself to read the story.
Also, the dialogue tags, I'm unclear who says some lines in the story (like the customer and Hiro in the video rental store), which is strange when its just the 2 of them. As far as I can tell, there is no reason you can't keep the same character statements grouped together in dialogue, because my general assumption is the switch is a handoff from one character to the other. I had a similar issue between Hiro and his friends during their dinner gathering.
Did Suzume commit suicide or did she just up and leave? That scene was well played as I'm clueless which path it had taken from the descriptions. Time to see how Hiro handles himself in the old world. Will he finally learn to listen to gramps?
