RIP Yuiko, the most memorable cameo chapter I've read in a while. I praise the author for cleverly misleading me into thinking Yuiko was one of the girls from the previous night, or a character with more significance than just a data point...though the mystery and Yui's injury tipped me off that maybe Yui is one of the leading girls.

Personally, this chapter felt kind of pointless to me. Why tell me about the daily life of a character who dies in the same chapter? Honestly, the most relevant details felt glossed over due to the length of the chapter. I would have preferred more elaboration, how did Yui come across this lead, what preparations did she make (we know she comes home late from her brother's commentary), her reactions as she makes the scary discovery of the anomoly turning a human into a monstrosity (which honestly felt like a wasted opportunity to get the pov of a civilian encountering this terrifying anomoly). If length is a concern, breaking down the chapter into a 2 part, the school day (ending on whatever lead/encounter lead Yuiko to meet the abomination) and the events of the night that resulted in her death, provided such a telling doesn't ruin the overall plan of the story.

Yuiko's mystery: What is killing all these random people?
My mystery as I read the chapter: What in the world is bead hair? I was imaging a pointed Afro (like Gerald from Hey Arnold because it does wag like a tail when he shakes his head)

As a reader with relative weak imagination/visualization skills; I'm not sure if this is primarily because I consumed games and tv more than reading as a child or because I'm generally an analytical person. Stories that start with abstract concepts are a challenge for me, as I struggle to grasp what is being portrayed. At the same time, this helps me develop my reading comprehension skills. I usually need an artistic medium (ie: anime/manga) to help me not completely wander off the trail when reading such stories

I love how the first half introduces a moral dilemma where what I presume are the consciousness of previous/fallen magical girls who are no more reside. With great power comes great burden. If I ended up gravely misinterpreting, this might become clear to me as I read on 🙂

The 2nd half was a lot more clear and this kind of reminded me of Sailor Moon and Shakagun no Shana where you have an instigator preying on human misery to create problems the protectors of humanity have to contend with. It seems the observer has an obsession with one of the magical girls and wants to see her implode/fall since she is pushing herself to her limits.

I could be mistaken but I'm guessing the end of the world isn't the world itself as its the end of the magical girl although this is based on this chapter alone. I think its awesome and wonderful how you can write a chapter that can have multiple possible interpretations by the reader (I can only generally write straightforward stuff).

Having read the story to the end, I really appreciated how a series of misunderstandings escalated into something dramatic yet believable. You lived up to the Impossible Romance challenge beautifully with a fair number of emotional highs and lows. I was genuinely happy with how it ended.

My only concern was how Yuri just seemingly dropped off from the series towards the last few chapters (its like the author just dismissed her from the cast). While Shiki did stay home after the week and is passive, considering Yuri is his deskmate, I'm surprised he didn't see her the whole week. Though given she was supportive of his efforts, its quite possible she was giving him space since he probably did tell her of the situation and she was caring enough (even if she is crazy at times) to back off.

I thought it was "cute" how Saya turned around on the possessive drive at the end claiming Shiki was now hers. They are in their own way, a good match for each other, even if it is out there on the romance spectrum.

    Hopes for volume 2:
-Saya and Shiki attempt to become a genuine couple. Depending on how much influence (aka screentime) Shiki's mom has, this could either be really heartwarming with bits of zany, an on and off relationship, or even a very dark turn (ie: repeat of Saya's parents)
-Definitely more about Yuri and her family dynamics. I was a bit surprised the parents were never around even on the Saturday morning when Shiki was there.
-Saya facing her family and her past (given Saya has run away, while I'm not sure about her mom, I could see her Dad trying to reconcile and depending on author's interest and overall plot, that could even be the catalyst for Shiki to properly man up and become a proper boyfriend to Saya.

Congrats on making it into the semi-finals
