Oooh, good point! Toma definitely had more of a character voice, I think. Now I just need to discover the secret recipe to get a whole crew of interesting characters together (though I think proper goals/agency is an important part of that).

I think it's becoming more clear to me now that as a chronic underwriter, my characters suffer in the first draft (or rather, don't have any chance to be anything more than surface level because I don't give them enough page space to unfold).
I think Nela benefitted most in this "restructuring" already and I hope that Leo shines a little more towards the end, but it's certainly something for me to keep in mind. I don't think I have it in me to do big edits like that for the remainder of this contest, but it's something I want to look out for in future stories/edits. Again, thank you for your comment! ☺️
