You are spot on!! Damn, no one who has every read this chapter mentioned the message behind it. Obviously the goal was to kind of further the 'romance' along a little bit, with Anita's act of kindness softening Tani up a bit. But I actually wrote the theme of this chapter because it's something that hits home for me. I actually failed my first couple years of high school really bad. I don't think I'm a genius by any measure, but I'm certainly not dumb, I just couldn't learn anything in the structure of a standard high school and at the time didn't have a desire to learn. Hell, I'm pretty decent at drawing and I failed my art class!!
Anywho, where I'm at now I enjoy learning and taking in as much knowledge as I can, especially world history. I'm sure I could do math without much problem now, and I've even gotten to the point that I'm semi proficient in another language I only started learning a year ago. It's all because now I'm learning in a way that suits me best, and being taught in a way catered to how I learn.
Not everyone can be like Tani and just breeze through academia, Anita is plenty smart, but he can't teach her the way he learned! He'll have to adjust his methods going forward, and that includes the future members of the Languages Club. As you can imagine, Tani will get pretty creative with that lol. Enjoy the relatively sane chapters while they last!
