home from work so now i can reply yipee
Been waiting for you to get to this chapter because it is the turning point of the underscoring plotline. When mapping this novel I wanted both Theresia and Agreste to start out and come to a minor conclusion in their emotional plot progression, but as an undertone I wanted there to be a very big and dramatic score of political and otherworldly happenings to occur in the background, eventually coming to the forefront. This is basically the start of it all, leading eventually to the sequel.
To break away from the 'broadening the sky' metaphor i use so often in my writing, I'm glad you've picked up on the fact that I'm trying to show off this innate human need to discover, and how its amplified when a portion of your developmental life is spent shut away in the darkness.
As you continue to read, I would ask that you keep a loose understanding of 'the antithesis of the moon', and how that applies to the character Solis specifically. Who knows- perhaps this refers to neither Agreste or Solis? -uo
It might serve to add that all title names are from the perspective of Agreste, however general or skewed they may be.
The 'veil of calm' that washes over him served two purposes as I was writing:
First, it gave me the opportunity to offer a lack of real human emotion when it came to finding yourself in a new world (i.e, fear, sadness, terror, confusion) and show off Agreste's other sides (curiosity, kindness, etc.). This also allowed me to present a very straightforward perspective of the world around him, which in turn helped worldbuilding.
Second, as you said, it gave Agreste a choice. A common motif I use in the later half is the courage to feel. This is the starting point of Agreste's realisation of that: 'I have the freedom to live my life.'.
Trains are a running injoke when it comes to YHHM so i'm excited to hear your thoughts on all of that lol.
And there, you catch onto the finest point of it all. The red haze is a ceiling; a prison, a dark room. -uo
I'm glad you're continuing to enjoy my work. I hope my future chapters bring you the same feelings. ^^ 💜
