I'm so glad you've reached this climactic turning point of the romance arc on this day of all days, because it is the day that I'm finally done posting the main story. How fun, to have been this coincidental. ^^

You managed to pick up on all of the body language, as usual. The 'move forward' motif is put into full effect.

Wholly though, I wanted this chapter to be an exact parallel of the night they spent in a drunken haze. This means Agreste moving past apprehension and taking charge. I also thought it was just a really cute dynamic to have this soft man I've built up be a little more forward in his approach. This was ultimately my purpose to parallel this novel's sequel, which I'm sure would be visible to you immediately.

The ladder served two purposes: one being his ascent upward toward the sky, and his movement forward. The second was to provide a comedic undertone, a dramaticisation of the moment, and to show off many of Agreste's personality points.

This 'trust' that was formed in the moment she caught him, and he brought him along with her is the blossoming of a new motif that takes effect later on.

This is also one of the first moments you see this 'fog' or 'haze' within his head lifted in her presence. I'll let you make assumptions on what that represents... -uo

The dulled stars, or rather the crystals that have lost the light they had soaked up - beauty fades, and only its memory remains in a quiet room. Yet, despite its lack of existence in the present, the feeling it imbues into a space still remains. The theatre is a place of joy, because of those memories, and those feelings. It is then that you see a roof that blocks out the stars is not strangling, rather its opposite.

'A confession marked by blossoms' used to have greater meaning. There was a bit I cut out for the sake of wordcount, but it was basically just allusion to the 'gilding of wildflowers' upon his forward path.

I'm glad you're still enjoying my novel, even though I feel like I grew a little complacent in later stages -.-

I hope you still continue to enjoy it regardless. ^^ <3

Thank you for all your support.

i think, slowly as I unveil more and more, you're picking up on the way I try to twist motifs in several different ways throughout my stories. This applies to two at the forefront, at least in my conscious thinking - the masks people wear, and how 'writing, words' can influence and weave in many ways, as well as take many forms. I'm glad that this has come to the forefront of your thoughts, because I put a lot of thinking into it. In this instance, it was sort of a bait-and-switch. This is a withdrawn woman who wears thorns on her heart, a natural defense mechanism for a plant. So, this stationary woman who is stuck within her roots, is shown to be that way. But now what is the perception of that mask, when it is shown to be the shade that grows around her? Then, is it not an interestingly different dynamic? A mask can not only be created and worn by an individual, but forced onto them to meet specific social requirements. This too, is a parallel to human reality.

As for the chess, I was really aching to draw out an action scene. My biggest and longest running project 'Godhome' uses meaningful motifs but is more action based, and having scripted this novel to be wholly meaningful, I felt a little homesick.

Moreover, besides the Death-note/Code-Geass style exchange of 'I caught you in my trap.' type exchanges, I couldn't think of any other way to make a chess scene seem interesting.

And then, we come to the heiress. Soldiers protect her on the defensive, like the thorns I allude to often. Then, its shown well her true self - soft, gentle.

I wanted to make sure that this was not lost on readers. Just because something is sharp on the outside, it should not distract from the fact that the interior may be different. As we have spoken of before, it is a library of many hidden meanings.

I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. I hope my future work brings you the same introspective allure. ^^ 💜
