BEAST PEOPLE!! 🍻 HECK YEAH!
I swear this one of the only genres where randomly having beast people is totally acceptable, and I was not going to miss the opportunity!!
I was planning on having Toren be a timid type, the type that's maybe a bit quiet but gets mad when he needs to. Then I started writing this scene and, in my head, Toren just started jumping up and down raising his hand like "Oooh! Oh! Let me at 'em!!" Aaaand the timid plan was out the window...
I will admit to using the Gold/Silver/Copper system as a bit of a simplification for fantasy money 🤣 unlike "Spice and Wolf", I didnt think having currency economics explanation would be fitting for the plot. (Am I dating myself by referencing that anime?)
But yes! Mia's family has a little bit of notoriety in these parts. Jun is definitely going to have to talk to her when he gets back!!

Aww! A crash-in at the library, but I'm glad it gave them a chance to meet!!
I was an arts student at university. I will admit to not being the biggest fan of basketball, simply because they always got the spotlight from the University (their faces were put on posters, they'd get passes out of class, the athletics dept had a huge budget since it generated ticket sales.) Whereas the arts school? Even though we actually had a national ranking, our budget was next to nothing, and our classrooms were in the old school buildings, because we didn't "make money" for the uni. Whereas the athletics department kept getting new, top of the line facilities. 😭 It killed me and my classmates.
Not saying this is suuuper relevant, but since you are writing something right on this topic, I thought I'd throw in my two cents 🤣 it's something you could maybe bring up between Jessica and Keith? But if it's totally against the direction of your story, feel free to disregard!!

Playing with the drink machine is absolutely a favorite memory as a kid. They're so magical at that age 🥤

Rye-wall. 🥺 Help. It's so cute. I'm having problems. This is what I get for reading after baby sitting my 5-yo niece.

"Of all the places to discuss relationships, a McDonalds public bathroom isn't one" 🤣🤣 both absolutely true, and also so very not true, if any of my road trips where I've stopped in fastfood bathrooms and overheard some *heavy* conversations is any indicator.

Kids asking the hard questions for real. 😭

Thumb war!! This is probably the first time I've ever seen a thumb war as both a totally legit thing, and also a flirtatious allegory. Either way. This is cute as heck.
