Author's Commentary #227:
Time to talk about Chapter 227: A fiendish filet.
I think this is by far one of the darkest chapters in the series. Not only does it feature one of the most gruesome deaths thus far, but Sandy herself is subjected to a cruel punishment, even though she wins. This gives a better picture of just how evil Pewler really was and how far gone many of his die-hard supporters were.
On the topic of Pewler, in my Season 4 revisions, I'm planning to rewrite his introduction so as to better build up his character and show just how evil he really is. Imelda will also likely have her role in the story revised as I feel she's way too unlikable to be an SPCM, especially after what she forced Sandy to do in this chapter.
Speaking of Sandy, I'll also be adding some bits to the revisions to have her role in the story make more sense, though if you're reading this commentary after I've made the revisions no worries. Though for clarity's sake, I'll state that as of this commentary, revisions have been completed only up to the end of Season 3. Season 4 will naturally be getting massive revisions, but Seasons 5 will only get minor revisions.
As for the game, I was debating whether or not I wanted to save this for a future Side Story, but decided I liked how the game went and wanted to use it here. Hermie was never a chess player, so it was easy for Sandy to dispatch him, however, Pewler was malicious in his losing conditions, much like how Michiko was in Season 3.
And with that, only one more chapter remains for this Side Story. After that, there will be at least 2 or 3 more Side Stories and maybe some Top 10 list chapters before it's on to Season 7. I know Season 7 keeps getting pushed back, but that's mainly because I feel it will be so long that there won't be any good chances to squeeze in some Side Stories or specials for a while. Thus, I'm trying to squeeze in as much as I can. Don't worry, these next Side Stories will be good and focus on some characters we haven't seen for a while. And for an even bigger tease, the games featured in them will be flashback matches which showcase how Michiko beat some of the other SPCMs. I hope you look forward to it.
That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.
