    Author's Commentary #339:

Time to talk about Chapter 339: Wet gunpowder.
The masked man has worked his magic, and it's helped rally the team to take the lead. Of course, Okisato needs to get back in time in order to win the match for the team, but let's be real, he will make it back. And no, this isn't a fake out, Okisato and Miralem will have a proper match in round 6 of the tournament.

Speaking of Okisato vs Miralem, I mentioned before that the game between the masked man and Tvrtko was originally the Okisato vs Miralem game. The reason I changed it was one, I felt the game I ended up going with was better than this one, and two, I felt this game was better suited for the masked man and Tvrtko. Obviously, I still liked this game enough to keep it in the series, and that lies with the Balkan gambit. It's an uncommon opening, but as shown, it can be very effective, and it makes things exciting. Though ironically, Tvrtko was getting extinguished at every turn.

And now, it's back to the women's side, where Iori's game will be the next one to end. This will easily be Iori's hardest match yet, but perhaps Okisato's presence can help motivate her to pull off the win. And if she wins, Japan will likely win the match, but even then, the question remains if they can continue their perfect victory streak.

And one more thing to note is the fact that the season i now approaching 100 chapters. I knew this arc would be long, but I never expected it to be THIS long. And since we're not even halfway through the arc, there's a chance it could be over 200 chapters long. Regardless, I feel this will easily be the longest arc in the entire series.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #338:

Time to talk about Chapter 338: SPCM Himitsuue.
There's a lot to unfold, including the game itself, but first thing's first, Tenju's title. If you recall, her original title was Himitsutan, while Himitsuue was Taira's. As with the other Japanese SPCMs, all have "Himitsu" in their name followed by a Japanese honorific, -tan and -ue being the two for the twins, respectively. Since Tenju now posses Taira's prowess, it feels more proper for her to have her nickname now as well.

What actually led to this though was me constantly forgetting Tenju's nickname was Himitsutan and not Himitsuue, but I decided to make it work. In the context of the story, Daria didn't want to pass on the nicknames of the former SPCMs to new ones, primarily out of respect, or in Michiko's case, not wanting to have her nickname passed on to someone else due to all the negativity surrounding it. But with Tenju, there was a case to be made for why she could adopt her sister's nickname.

Tenju had always hated her original nickname, which she believed represented her pathetic state. But now that she's not only matured, but gained Taira's prowess, it made sense to give the title to her. And even though it won't properly be showcased in the story, I will confirm that the badge people get for beating her has been updated.

As for the game, it was amazing. Not only was it a cinematic masterpiece thanks to the presence of Taira's visage, but it was a good chess game too. Bao's anger got the better of her, and she blundered big time, which now gives Japan the lead.

One final thing I'll talk about is the upload date for the chapter. The chapter was uploaded on February 2nd, or 2/2 day. This day can often be associated with twins, in fact, I have some characters that are twins and born on that day. This is why I felt it would be perfect to release the chapter on that day. And speaking of significant days, the finale of the Tvrtko vs the masked man will take place next chapter, while the Iori vs Jia finale will take place the chapter after, meaning it will release on February 4th. Given Iori's affinity for the number, it makes sense to release the chapter that day. I don't normally try to align chapter releases with specific dates, though there are some exceptions, but this was a case where things just worked out.

And with that, it's back to the men's section, but based on the info I just gave, it means the Okisato vs Miralem match won't happen just yet. The question will be how long they decide to watch the women's games. Since Okisato's the one who's on the clock, Miralem can watch for as long as he wants until Okisato decides to head back. One thing I will say about the game is that it features an opening I don't think many will guess. See if you can guess it before it's revealed in a few chapters.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.

    Author's Commentary #174:

It's finally time to talk about the Season 5 finale. Chapter 174: Rain and Rebirth.
The chapter mainly gives an update on what's going on with everyone, starting with the fairy league. Heather has entered her fallen arc and is now Heather Spriggan of the Spriggan league. ヘザー・スプリガン (Heather Spriggan) is how her new name is written in katakana.

Even though this is the last chapter of the season, a new character, Melisha, has been introduced. I'll give her bio first.

メリシャ・カマレオン (Melisha Kamaleon) is how Melisha's name is spelled in katakana. Her surname is an obvious pun on "Chameleon". As for her alias,
メリシャ・ヴスレンドルショーヴ (Melisha Vousrendrechauve) is how it is spelled in katakana. Here, her surname Vousrendrechauve is French for "Make you bald". Thus her alias is essentially "Melisha make you bald".
(If I made any mistakes with the translation, feel free to correct me).

Her true birthday is actually a mystery, but she is currently listing September 13th, which is Bald is beautiful day, as her birthday. Maybe this is her real birthday, or maybe it isn't.

Her favorite piece is the queen, though she refuses to elaborate why.

It's obvious there's lots of mystery surrounding Melisha, and to be honest, I haven't yet finalized what her character will ultimately be. But for now, she certainly bears many similarities to a certain hair stylist from one of my other series.

As for the ending, Jackie Egghead is claiming to be Numakawa. However, things aren't so clear. The exact conditions of the wager were never shown, and it's not truly certain if Jackie's memories and consciousness are truly gone. Not to mention, Skaberghast actually decided to get off his ass and go confront her himself.

This segways into Season 6. Originally, I planned for Season 6 to be one of the longest arcs in the series. However, I changed my plans and instead it ended up having less chapters than Season 5.

However, before Season 6, there will first be some short, but 100% canon to the main story smaller arcs, which I dub, "Side Stories" . There's a few of them along with some one-off specials, but they are really good. But to hype you up for Season 6, I'll reveal two things about it. First, Skaberghast will be the main antagonist of the season, and second, it will feature a tournament. I hope you look forward to what's to come for this series.

That's all for this commentary. I hope you enjoyed it.
