If setting up the world and introducing the characters feels like a prologue for you, then sure, you can think of it that way.
As for the tentacle thing, if it created some kind of response, then that was what I was going for. This chapter is in Maribell's viewpoint, who is already at her wits end being chased. So having some creature suddenly latch itself to her is supposed to create a similar OMG feeling.
This was to tie it to the title, which is a misunderstanding, like what the whole book is full of.
