Part of what you found unsatisfying could be because I was trying to keep the pace swift through even these dramatic parts. Trifecta's encounter did not exactly end with a complete understanding of each other; it's not supposed to. They merely called a momentary truce and parting of ways.
It's one of the things that I would like to explore more in-depth in a later volume. So rather than an acceptance, it was more of a clearing up of an immediate misunderstanding, whereas things will take time to resolve.
I went for the simpler approach to keep things moving, while punting the heaviness for a later time. As you said, the shift to drama from comedy was sudden, but I wasn't sure where exactly to foreshadow those tidbits leading up to it, without creating a surprise. I'll look into it with an editor at some point and ponder some.
