Yeah. i can see how Aki comes across that way. It wasn't intentional. She is caught between working for Raven's father and her other responsibilities. I can't say at this point without spoiling things. Raven is trying to fit in. She definitely does not want to be there, but has to accept that she is. To be honest, if it wasn't for the others, she would be on her own. As for the world, I built an entire world history for this. Unfortunately, only some comes out in the story. Raven as a teenager, doesn't know much of it. She isn't the type to take her studies seriously. Instead of giving a history dump, I decided to reveal things as Raven learns them. To keep things short, magic returned to the world at the end of the 19th century, but the world really noticed towards the end of WW1. Magic users were called resonators. By the time WW2 rolled around, there was an arcane arms race. Magic became a critical part of the war. Not everyone could become a resonator, but the inventions of magic infused items made it available to everyone. The second world war was a magic war. Every region of the world was using their own forms of magic, but the strongest forms were the Japanese Onmyōdō and the Americans used a Diné magic base on the Navajo.
