wow. I gotta say you approached the problem with Atlas in a pretty interesting way.
These chapters served their purpose well. My understanding of this guy is a lot better now. I gotta say, I didn't expect him to so resolutely decide to serve julian and mary, but I guess it makes sense considering how they were the ones who sorta got him back on his feet.
Hmm. It's fascinating how he's still wishing to do what is right (repaying mary and julian for their kindness) even when its implied that he wants to do what will make HIM feel most at ease. This makes more sense when i read julians words about another living being having the ability to "return the care" he's given to the world.
I guess that's what he wants. Or at least, that's what he thinks he wants. He wants compensation in the form of meaning. But I don't think he realizes how human he actually is. To me, a reader, its clear that hes building attachments to julian and mary simply out of love and fondness for them (which appear to be foreign concepts to him).
So I'd say he's slowly breaking out of the mindset of a one-purpose tool.
