Echoing what Kaze said, I think your premise is solid. You just need some edits here and there. For starters, the paragraphs are really bunched together, it might make it more readable if there were more breaks in-between. Play with the space on the page. Good start!

I like the foreshadowing, and the lead-in to what will be a backstory chapter in the next installment (I assume). We’ve spent a lot of time in the village so far though, I feel like for the sake of the pacing it might be best to keep her story short and have them at least set-off by the end of the next chapter. It’s up to you though, I’ve been enjoying it.

You were really able to put the reader in the middle of the festival with the descriptive language. Closing my eyes, I can imagine myself there amongst the crowd. 🏮🪭 One small note, this isn’t a critique or anything but Japan generally calls it “soccer”.
